Yes, I and my friend have taken numerous photos of these Ps. subaeruginascens, and I am happy to confirm that they match macroscopically well with the photo from that second link:

And here are the photos from my friends patch: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v101/CureCat/Ps%20crispii/?start=all

Ah I see Curecat. I see what you mean about the wavy gills, and no, the ones I found don't get like that.
some of the photos look close, but I think what Waylit and I found might be different. I mean, it looks closer than any other species, but there's enough differences, especially the wavy caps and gills. Also the stem in what I found was more fibrous and sort of hollow
sure is close tho. Might be different strains. The ones your friend found look much closer to that Japanese species, yep. This is also the Bay Area too?
I would be interesting to see if Workman could differentiate your friends finds and Waylits under a microscope

It's nice to see this species still getting some attention. I moved from the bay area, but I'm sure this species will pop up again at some point. Wishing your rain. ~Waylit
This was the original specimen.

curecat, Is this the species that your friends refers to as the "spring time or warm weather psilocybe"?

> I would be interesting to see if Workman could differentiate your friends finds and Waylits under a microscope
Its been done:
Waylitjim collection: http://www.sporeworksgallery.com/Stuntzae/SanFran_azurelike_redone011707
Auweia collection: http://www.sporeworksgallery.com/Stuntzae/auweia_subaeruginascens
Curecat collection: (originally from ggp) http://www.sporeworksgallery.com/Stuntzae/Alan_Rockefeller_CA_specimen_001
I agree with Workman that these three are the same species.
I was researching these a couple months ago and compared the above photos with the species description of P. subaeruginascens, its a good match.
> Is this the species that your friends refers to as the "spring time or warm weather psilocybe"?
Yes. Makes sense that a tropical species would prefer warmer weather.
The spores look exactly like the spores from the three active species I found in Mexico. It is common for tropical Psilocybes to have small thin walled subrhomboid spores.

Makes me wonder if this patch that was raped by someone was a fluke. Maybe a warm spell caused it to fruit and it usually doesnt fruit until later in the season

They also fruit a bit at other times as well, some fruited a month ago. They are unique because they also like to fruit in the spring after it is too warm for the other woodlovers.

> As far as the warmer weather, I'm not sure about that because the room tempurature cardboard for the Japanese species didn't make it (it is making it outside tho), and I tried 5 times, and most of the regular cyans and friscosas do make it at room temps.. So that tells me at least the mycelium need slightly lower temps.
Mycelium from any species grows fine at room temps, it doesn't really get picky about temperature until its time to fruit. My friend has some P. subaeruginascens petri plates that grow ok at room temp. There are a lot of factors, its hard to say why yours didn't take. I don't think cardboard is an ideal medium.
> BTW, I stopped using cardboard. It works, but it seems to work even better just getting clean alder chips and toss the stem butts and mycelium in a pastic bag.
That is a great idea. I have a couple Hypholoma sublateratum cultures in plastic bags that I feed with alder chips, they don't ever contaminate on me unless I feed them crap.
> One decent source for clean chips, and I've only had one contamination out of dozens that went well > http://www.amazon.com/Alder-Wood-Smoking-Chips-12/dp/B00076MU4G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1196111696&sr=8-1
Those are kind of coarse, some of the chips are almost like little blocks of wood.
Probably works fine though, its probably good to have larger sizes as well so the patch doesn't die after a year.

I have been saying that cardboard sucks for years now

I know we're off topic here, but I must say I really love Luhr-Jensen Little Chief alder chips. You can find them at Ace Hardware for $2 a bag. The chips contain no bark, and they're the smallest I've found. Great for building spawn, they colonize quickly.

Yeah, i bought a bag of that for like, $3.50 in oakland at safeway. That stuff is a REALLY awesome texture/size. Mycelium loves it! I'll have to see where there is an ace hardware around!
