Freezing temps! Curses Curses I say!!! [Re: tahoe]
    #7664563 - 11/21/07 07:32 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Woke up this morning to find a thin layer of ice over my prius. Went to the local patch after work to find a little frost damage.

On the brighter note. I found these near another local patch. I believe they are cyanescens with a little freeze damage

I even told peter that you had psylocybes:::eek: i didn't really think that you recognized me. In fact :sad:I'm the person that told peter about the shroomery

Awww sorry.  I remember meeting you at the park a month or so ago!

>I was the "old guy" at the meeting

LoL!  dude, that's most of the people there!

Sorry though!!  I didn't recognize this girl who was at the meet, that also came to the gathering to do a documentary.  So I am bad with recognizing people sometimes!

Next time, identify yourself to me!

Seriously though, I'm not bringing (well, at least not showing) actives to the meets again.  What a pain!

Will you be at the Fungus Fair?  Be sure to say hi!!

I dunno if he backed out. But Sunday seems like the better day to go! Last year most of the n00bs showed the first day, and most of the old hands stuck around or showed up for the second day.

Yup.  I checked on some cyan pins I expected to be all grown up by now, but instead they were all dried up.  :frown:

So I did my best, and covered up the remaining pins with lots of leaves.  Wish I had had a bottle of water with me.

confirming Alans finds (conditions) and what everybody in the Bay Area

btw, I had a thought on the 'split variety'....Notice that these normal cyans don't split, and I think it's because they have more of a pellicle than the other strains like some strains of Friscosas. It's the pellicle that keeps the cap together under most conditions and when it starts disappearing with some strains, they split.(even when it's wet)

The very definition of what a pellicle is, is also up for debate (whether you can peel it or not)

There does seem to be a very wide variety in the Bay area with all combinations included, all under the cyanescens umbrella

so Curecat, did Peter have anything to say about this graduate thesis on cyanescens?

hehe. I only think it's funny because you have to see what I see to know it's likely never going to happen, and rather than a new species thesis, the very definition of cyanescens would likely have to be expanded instead

Well.  I have one patch of Cyans that I have checked for a pellicle.  They did not have one, and yet, I have not seen a single sun dried specimen split.  :ohwell:

Well.  Peter reiterated the point that these Cyanofriscosas match microscopically with Ps. cyanescens, the only noticed difference is that the Cyanofriscosas, on average, have slightly larger spores... Yet, it is still well within range of expected species variation.  Also, the sample size is not large enough to represent the variety as a whole, in my opinion.

that's what I thought. Peter knows full well these are NOT cyanofibrillosa as found in the PNW. They don't even come close as to cystidia. They're not fibs!

the spores being generally larger under a microscope is not suprising...Look at how much larger the caps can get!

but myc people like HMS (humboldt county) have to do that because at eye level they are sooo different, nobody can explain it yet (except to call it 'fibs'...this makes it easier on everyone for something already not very well documented anyway...haha

neh, it will take much more time and samples, and Peter is very correct on this point. He's certainly not an idiot and neither am I

Peter Werner may not actually be aware of all the variations within the cyanescens complex that have appeared in he last 13 months

in terms of Cyanescens, Friscosas, Fibrillosa debate,

we as documentarians, are just beginning...let me put it this way, and Peter also knows this pretty good now...Some of us expert pickers know very well, that what you see in some areas of the Bay Area, isn't exactly what you'll see all around.(the Bay Area) It is these variations that is stopping a definitive paper from being written...Peter knows it, I know it, but alot of others don't know it at all
