It is an undescribed species recently found in the California Bay Area. It is probably an introduced species and seems to be displacing the local P. cyanescens. Initially the mushrooms were thought to be Psilocybe cyanofibrillosa but microscopic examination eliminated that possibility. Stamet's dubbed it the "Cyclone" psilocybe because of the swirled aspect of the mycelium on agar, but this feature is not always present. It appears to be closely related to Psilocybe cyanescens, but is somewhat more tolerant of warmer temperatures. Potency is high as in P. cyanescens.

Spores of this species are available at sporeworks.com upon request but it is not yet listed on that site.
