My plans for 2008

So, after doing this roadtrip I realized that travelling in a Toyota Camry is not the way to go. You can't sleep in it when there's more than one person with you, and you really can't carry much stuff in it without everything getting torn apart and strewn all over the back seat and throughout the trunk.
I'm now planning on buying a van, like one of those E-250 deisel work vans or something, and converting it into a van for travelling. I'll put a bed and a little kitchen in it, with an auxilary power supply possibly. It'll have a bed and the passenger seat will somehow be able to lie completely flat for a bed for someone as well. On top of all of that, I'd also like to convert the engine to run on both deisel and biodeisel, that way I could travel anywhere and fill up for free by just hitting up every restaurant in town, yay for free fuel!
I can imagine the security level in a van would be higher as well, especially if you get one without windows (or at least big windows) on the sides. I don't know, sometimes cars feel very insecure.
This will be my project. Get a van and make it into something for roadtripping.

Just get a large passenger car with a front bench seat. I have a 1989 ford crown vic and it gets close to 30mpg on the highway, seats 6 and has one of the largest trunks ever. Relatively cheap too. I paid 1500 for mine it was near mint when I got it.
-------------------- So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

I have "real life" experience, I'm bored with that. American dream bullshit, own a big house and a fast car crap.
Anyway, I'm not into big cars, if I'm going to have a large vehicle, a van is more comfortable all around. and can store even more, anyday. Thanks for the suggestion though, but I need something I can have a mini fridge in too for food as well as a stove.

Sounds awesome, I'd like to upgrade to a more roadtrippin friendly vehicle myself. A tent and the open world always works, though.
You have an idea about how much this project will cost?

A tent and the open world isn't always possible though, so the van will be more suitable when I can't use the tent.i imagine it'll cost upwards of around 6,000-10,000. Gotta buy the van, convert the engine, and convert the interior.

I realized I need help selecting a van. Anyone have any good suggestions? Or should I just go out and test them out around the area?

You can get a cargo van like this, some come with racks on top so you can carry more stuff, and if you get a work van, they are normally stripped out in the back anyway so it would be ready for you to do up the interior how you like. If you are concerned with adverse weather, many of them, like this one, are all wheel drive. You might have to come to Colorado to find most of the AWD ones though.
An idea of your price range would better help us find you a good vehicle.

The sierras has plenty of AWD vans, colorado's not the only place that gets adverse weather with adverse terrain. :P If it's not already going to have an interior, then cheap, a few grand maybe.

hey man, if youre interested i can actually sell you a damn nice diesel bus.

the bus itself runs 2500, and I can convert it with a 2 tank GreaseCar (www.greasecar.com) system for another ~2500 depending on the cost of the kit itself.
Btw I am an authorised installer for that company.
plus i can drive it out to where ever you are, nation wide, fully insured.

88 chevy goodtimes van has a bed in the back thats also a seat 2 captins chairs in the back and two up front. 305 motor that wouldn't need much done and u could get it cheap. 1500 or so. and the motor is cheap on parts and has power but gas would be slightly sucky
