Dear John....

Dear John Paxson,
Please trade for Kobe Bryant. Listen, I know you love Lu Deng and Ben Gordon. I know you drafted them and watched them grow, and I know they're probably like your children to you. But you can't put their feelings, and your own, ahead of the supreme goal of this franchise, which is Winning a Championship.
Now, we all love Benny. We love his defense and his fearless shooting. But he isn't getting any taller. He's always going to be a 5'11" shooting guard. This just isn't getting it done.
And we love Deng too. He may be something very special someday. He's long and lanky and can run the floor like nobodies business.
But the fact is, neither one of these guys is Kobe Bryant. Kobe is the best player of his generation HANDS DOWN. We have tons of hot young talent, but we need someone to take it to the next level.
So Mr. Paxson, Please Trade for Kobe Bryant.

It's interesting, we live in a society in which so many say, "I'm crazy". "I'm a crazy mo fo" , "I'm one crazy b!tch" and so on.
I honestly think Kobe is somewhat crazy, in a very real way. He will NEVER win a ring without another great player, and he will NEVER be able to co-exist with another great player, and he will NEVER be able to elevate a very good player into a great player and hence have a great player with good player loyalty (think Scottie and Michael)
Not to say I don't think he's skilled, or great fun to watch, but I hope he stays in LA with all of the One Flew over the Cuckoos nest crew.

So, since Kobe hasn't won w/out Shaq, he'll never win one w/out him?
The guy is the most dominant player of his generation.
You CANNOT guard him.
He isn't crazy, he's driven.
If you were in Chicago when Michael was great, he did some pretty crazy stuff. He was a terrible teammate. Most of the guys playing with him hated him. It doesn't make him a bad player...
And Scottie was a punk. Don't think he was some uber-loyal henchman. Remember when he refused to go back in that game off the bench?
Nobody is perfect. Get the best players you can...
We wouldn't need to trade half the team.
Deng/Gordon/Draft pick gets it done.

Michael suffers from OCD, and another condition which distorts the true meaning of things, but I can't remember the name of it. Pretty common among dominant athletes and a real reason why so many of them are terrible husbands/dads/teammates ect and go on to live miserable lives.
As far as Scottie goes, my point exactly, but Michael used his power to get the very best he could out of him and keep his butt in line. Nobody's going to follow Kobe like that because of who he is. The fact that he "sold out" Shaq to the police during his interview on rape charges brought "what else would you expect from that guy" statements from around the league. Says somthing about peers feel about a man when he goes on a police record for NO REASON and in his selfishenss tries to bring pain on somebody who he handn't spoke to in over a year. Foolish and a true cheapshot. And they they all, "Yup that's Kobe".
I've been a Bull fan since 1984, when Mike was a ball hog and would never win anything. I had the first 9 pairs of Air Jordans, and saw ever single big moment of his career (NCAA game winner, 63 in the garden, Cleveland shot, every all star game weekend, double nickle on the knicks, the true "I'm back" game winner against the Hawks ect.) I know we all want to have a guy like that back. A guy that makes you skip doing your homework, or your job because to turn your head might mean missing an SI cover shot, and KOBE is that guy. But he's not a winner. In that department, he's not worthy of carrying Mike's suitcase.
I do not want Kobe. Let him go to Dallas. Not for what we'd give up for him. He might get us to the finals in the WEAK east, but the bulls would get smashed by the western representative with the one man show. And that's what it is for him. Always has been. The team that would be there won't be able to win in the next 3 years. No way. Kobe will be 32-33, and pushing for a trade where we'll get pennies on the dollar for him, and the team will be 6 years back before the whole mess. Everyone will smack their heads and say, "We should have known, but we wanted the new Mike. We were high on that idea".
How can it go any other way? Do you honestly see the Bulls, who WILL make the playoffs with him, and unless we get one of those crazy late 1st round picks who comes right in the league and is very good (happens once every 5 years or so) winning the title? Isn't that what Kobe wants? So why, WHY oh WHY would he stay somewhere unless he can see the light right around the bend. He won't.
Phil Jackson has got to be drooling over the chance to get rid of this Michael wanna be prima donna AND get to stick it to his old franchise all at once.
peace

I disagree 100%.
This team is not winning anything with its current make-up.
You say we'll get bounced in the first round every year with Kobe. Kobe gets bounced from the first in the WEST every year, w/ that Lakers team.
Do you honestly not believe that even minus Deng/Gordon, that the Bulls + Kobe would not be better than the current lakers? All of the Lakers players are TERRIBLE.
I'm sorry, but we will never get out of the conference championship with Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich starting on our team. Its just not going to happen.

That is true. That's why I think (and I DO see what you're saying about Kobe, I just don't agree) I think that we wait and see what plays out. You probably know a LOT more about upcoming free agents, contract situations and so forth. I'm not sure what may or may not be on the horizon.
My thought is that I don't want my favorite team that FINALLY has some parts to move a chunk of it for a guy that will NOT bring us a title simply due to the fact that he is pretty much despised by 80% of people he comes into contact with. That won't change. Mike treated people like crap too, but he had that "smile in your face, stab you in the back" personality that allowed him to get away with murder. Kobe doesn't have that.
Kobe will KILL us in the long run. It's just who he is.
Of course, people do change. And I would LOVE to be wrong.

The fucking suspense of this is fucking killing me.
The Cubs are done, the Bears are terrible, and the Bulls are my only hope for Sports Salvation this year.
GET THE FUCKING DEAL DONE.
CHRIST.

I hear ya, but what the Lakers are asking for is stupid. Maybe they can ask for some of Michael Jordan's frozen sperm, so they can inoculate some of those perfect California girls to make a team for the future. Geez.
At the prices they're asking, no way it happens.
