Lets continue from the other thread. The Chargers played the following teams. Last season:

Raiders (are complete crap, obviously)
Titans (went 8-8 and had a hot streak at the end of the season. Definately a good team)
Ravens (one of the top 3 defenses last season; one could argue that their defense alone made them one of the toughest teams to beat. chargers lost)
Stealers(Superbowl Champs coming into last season and chargers beat them)
49'ers (mediocre but not horrible)
Chiefs (Terrible but they were projected to do very well especially with LJ, even this season I would say they are decent)
Rams (One of the best offenses in terms of players)
Browns (no excuse, they are bad)
Bengals (One of the top 3 offenses in the NFL, very tough team with Ocho Cinco and Houshmenzada (sp?) plus Rudi Johnson and Henry)
Broncos (Pretty good team last season especially towards the end when plummer was pulled, even though I liked him)
Bills (another mediocre team)
Seahawks(another very good team)
Cardinals(not as good as projected so I will count them as a "bad" team)

The only playoff-bound teams that the Chargers beat last year was Seattle and Denver, both teams which would end being eliminated in the first playoff game.

The 49ers were mediocre yes, 7-9 last year

The steelers, yes they were super bowl champs, but that doesn't mean they were the same caliber of team the following season, which they clearly weren't.

The chiefs were pretty solid last year, they performed better than any of the teams the chargers had beaten up to this point in the season. But the chargers lost to them as well.

Rams were 8-8, another mediocre team.

Bengals ended up going 9-7 and missing the playoffs.

The point still remains, San Diego did not beat ANY team with a winning record untill week 10. So even though you can justify certain teams being "impressive wins" because of their offenses and projected performances, the bottom line is, the teams weren't that good last season, and the chargers did not beat any truely impressive teams last year.

And again i'll say, going up to week 8, where we are now, the chargers did not beat a SINGLE TEAM with a winning record last year. Not the mention, they lost both their games during this stretch.

While the patriots, not only went undefeated during the same time period, but also beat 3 teams with winning records.

I still don't know how you can say the Charger's run was more impressive when the patriots had beaten stronger teams, and have yet to lose.

I'll give you that, the Pats beat some pretty sorry teams in miami, cleveland, and cincinatti. But they did also beat more impressive teams than what the chargers faced up to week 8 last year.

Because a record obviously shows how good a team is as a whole. I hope you dont honestly believe that. If you do, I will stop arguing. But look at the players on the teams not the record. A number only shows you so much about a team. Like Kitna for instance, he is a pretty good quarterback but when you look at his numbers, 22TD 21INT, he doesnt look that good. Infact he looks mediocre in the grand scheme. Same with Donovan McNabb, his numbers this season are crap but if you look in previous seasons he has outstanding numbers (better than Manning and Brady up until the point he was injured). So dont tell me that 7-9 means a team sucks. It means they didnt win some games not that they suck.

Ill admit that the Chargers were overrated last season and coming into this season. We won most of the games last season because of LT blowing people out of the water. However, with that said it is more impressive to see a team that is not well rounded (receivers and quarterback, plus some inconsistent secondary)go 14-2. The Pats right now are the best team in the NFL even if they had lost a game by now... however, its less impressive to see them go undefeated thus far because of the teams they have played (with the exception of the 2 mentioned) and with the division they are in.

They wont 16-0 (no team ever has)and they wont win the Superbowl. My money right now is on the Colts for the Superbowl, but I think the pats will get knocked out before the AFC Championship game.

A team's record doesn't show how good the team is? Wow. How can you even make that kind of statement seriously.

So the Rams are a good team because they have Steven Jackson huh. Since the individual players define a good team, right?

Did I SAY they suck?

So having a well-rounded team makes the team LESS impressive?

You really stopped making sense when you said individual players on a team means more than the team's record.

I'll ask you again. How is it LESS impressive, when the pats have yet to lose, while the chargers didn't beat a single team that even went to the playoffs during the same stretch, AND lost twice?

That's still 3 more teams with winning records that the Pats beat, to zero the chargers beat up to this week.

You can try to make this as subjective as you want by justifying the charger's wins against teams that didn't even make the playoffs.

But the facts still remain...the Patriots this season have beaten every single team put in front of them, by very large point margins. While the Chargers last year, struggled to beat any quality opponents at all.

How can you say a team is LESS impressive, when you even admitted they're the best team in the NFL?

If they're the best team in the NFL, and they win all their games, it makes them less impressive BECAUSE they're such a good team?

I never said they'll go 16-0, but I did say they were clearly heads and shoulders above any other team in the NFL currently. The games speak for themselves.

You really think the Pats will get knocked out before the AFC championship game? I'll be willing to make a large wager with you that they'll most definitely reach the AFC championship game.

Im not saying the TEAM is less impressive, I am saying their record is. Take a team this season like Atlanta. If they went 8-0 it would be more impressive than the Pats going 8-0. That is all I am saying. The Pats ARE better than the Chargers and Baltimore of last season, but the records of both those teams WERE more impressive to me considering the mediocre players both teams has in many possitions. Dont just limit me to the Chargers like you want to... I said a lot earlier that Baltimore was more impressive as well. So as "biased" as I am towards San Diego, try explaining my bias for baltimore.

My 16-0 comment wasnt directed towards you, it was directed towards others in this thread (though its really been just you and I for a while now). I stand by my statement that the Pats will not make it to the AFC Championship game and they will hopefully lose this weekend.

As far as the NFC goes... I think there will be an upset and neither Dallas nor Green Bay will make it to the Superbowl. Giants maybe? Too sketchy to tell with the NFC.

I understand what you're trying to say, but my arguement is simply the opposite of that.

Your initial quote was this:

"I think the 14-2 season the Chargers has last year was more impressive than the Pats, Dallas, and Greenbay records this year. The Chargers actually had to play tough teams last season. I dont think beating teams like Miami by 30-40 points is impressive. Its Miami not the Colts."

I was simply pointing out the falasy in this statement.  Your initial statement was saying how the Pats weren't as good BECAUSE they hadn't beaten many worthy teams.  And you use the Chargers as a contrast, saying their season was more impressive, BECAUSE they had to play tough teams last season.

We affirmed that the Pats beat Dallas, San Diego, both of which, are strong wins.

When the chargers, didn't beat anyone with a winning record untill week 10.  So it's a bit harder to say the Charger's season last year was more impressive based on your initial explanation (them actually facing tough teams).

Quote:

You are pretty biased towards SD, doesn't mean you can't be fans of other teams.  But your deep-rooted hatred for the Pats is evident in how you talk about sports.  Which I can understand, being a Steelers fan I hate the pats just as much, probably even MORE than you do.

They've only knocked you guys out of ONE afc playoff game :smirk:.

But then it makes me ask...why would you even bring up the Chargers in this conversation, saying they're more impressive than the Pats in the manner that you did UNLESS you were initially attempting to say the Chargers of last season were overall more impressive than this year's Pats?

Especially since you just admitted the Pats having a better team than last year's Chargers.

Quote:

Listen, I will be willing to make a large bet with you that the Pats DO reach the AFC title game.  If money ain't your style, we can wager sigs.

If the Pats don't make the AFC championship game, I'll put a Chargers logo in my sig for an entire year.

If the Pats DO....you have to put a Steelers logo on YOUR sig for an entire year.

You know nothing about sports... just stop. 16-0 is refering to regular season. They went 14-0 during that time with less teams. The best record of any team was I believe the 85 Bears with 15-1. I may be wrong on the year but it was the Bears around that time.

I dont hate the Pats, but I will admit to be incredibly harsh on them due to the dick sucking going on. You dont agree I accept that but I dont hate any team except the Raiders and the Bears.

I would say that the '72 Dolphins had a better record than the '84 49ers, the '85 Bears or the '98 Vikings, who all went 15-1, since a 1.000 win pct is always better than a .938 win pct.

I think its unfair to say that 14-0 is better than 15-1 just because of a 1:1 ratio.

However, if all you care about is the ratio and not the relative wins to loses in a realistic environment, you are right. But, in the NFL 2 games does make a difference for a record.

You didn't answer my other question...

Since you're so sure the Patriots aren't going to reach the AFC championship game this year....then lets make a wager.

I will wager my signature for a whole YEAR, or I will wager up to $200 that they do make the AFC championship game.

I dont gamble. I never have and I never will.

But, if they do make it, you have bragging rights. If they dont make it, you dont get bragging rights. To be honest I am not that passionate about it at this point. How many teams in the AFC actually make it to the AFC Championship game when they are favored early in the season? Id say very few. Remember when the Stealers went with a wildcard playoff slot? Anything can happen.

Do you even realize why pittsburgh was the #6 seed that season?

All the games they lost, Ben Roethlisburger was injured and Maddox was playing horribly.

If you don't want to wager money, then why not wager your sig?

I'll put a chargers logo on my sig for a whole year if they dont make it to the AFC championship game, and you do the same with a steelers logo!

Good win by the Pats.

It'll be interesting to see how the Pats run that spread with no running game in bad weather come the playoffs. It's funny but the Colts may be better suited to play in bad weather right now than the Pats.

It's a fun rivalry.

That is actually astute. I still think the Pats will win but it is most definitely a strong point. I also think the game just played should not have been that close because of 150+ penalty yards, many of which were on bogus interference calls.

I don't think the pat's running game is bad at all. They just haven't had to use it.

But look at Maroney and Faulk play. They're friggin good.

Maroney especially, he's a damn workhorse.
