depends, what's your major, or your area of study? what kind of school do you go to? those things play factors
most classes in the science curric. at a general university just require going to class, takin notes, studying. reading the book usually is not necessary. that's just 1 person's experience though.

yea I came to the realization this year that I seriously need to only concentrate on today and what I can get done at the moment freshman year I constantly had useless anxiety about getting shit done weeks from when it was due

something I notice that everyone does is kill themselves taking hard as fuck classes. Take 2, at most, of core classes a semester. And then fluff your schedule with bs humanities that you're either interested in or that you've heard are ridiculously easy. ONLINE classes... be all about them. Shit man, does your college have correspondence classes?? I don't know how it works over there, but you can take some classes as correspondence, email/mail you hw in and take the tests whenever you want within a 2 semester period.
And the first semester always blows. I ended up dropped 2 classes that were killing me and then in the spring I got my shit together. But it seems like that's the common trend with me anyhow... not dropping 2 classes, but fall always seems to be harder than the spring...
Just fuck around when you can fuck around and get your shit done little by little.

It stays hard and stressful. Taking only core requirements this academic year doesn't help. When the semester concludes it feels like what I imagine would be if one was withholding a season long orgasm.

The first semester is the hardest. You're still getting used to things and you have to take a bunch of survey courses, which in some cases are a lot harder than the upper level courses. A lot of them are known as "weeder" classes too, so they're particularly hard. You get used to studying at the college level though and eventually you'll find a good balance. Once you're able to take classes that you actually want to take and once you get further into your major, it gets easier. Don't worry about it Plus you're in Irvine. That's gotta be a blast! My cousin just started there as well.

GEs are dumb - but helpful for people like me who took 4 semesters to pick a major(s).
fortunately i only ended up taking 2 classes i had absolutely no need for... so i'll only need an extra semester to graduate.
Your workload never lightens (for the most part), but as you proceed down your college path, and get deep into your upper level major courses, the "heavy workload" is still "heavy" but it's interesting and fun, and you dont mind the work (to an extent, obviously).
This semester im taking ECON 304, 454, 495, and Finance323 + Business485.
While people who are ignorant to my major courses might be like "wow, that sucks balls" - to me its just another 5 classes, but now-a-days they're INTERESTING and FUN, and i actually GO and PAY ATTENTION

Math gives me a god damn headache. But if given a social sciences or humanities course, I could get drunk everyday of the semester and still get an A.

ehh, I find it interesting What is your major? Some sort of science, or engineering?
I am taking similar kinds of classes, physics and math stuff. One history of science class for my 'other classes' box.
OP: In my experience it just stays hard day to day (or gets harder). But, at least in my case, you get used to it and just do it. Its kind of like a dream, you spend all your time on school and work, and once its over look back on it like some wierd reality you have survived. I guess a good question is not whether it gets easier or not, but whether you learn to enjoy the struggle. Thats what separates the success stories from the drop-outs, you have to learn to love the fight.

As of now I am undecided engineer. I am leaning towards bio/agricultural engineering or I may go too a material science like metallurgy. What are you taking? I am just taking general engineering classes until I can narrow it down.

Ohhh, I can feel special listing the full names of my classes too... Classical Particles, Fields and Matter ; Quantum Physics; Mathematical Methods in Physics II; History of science
You probably have another year or so until you can narrow it down huh? Would materials science/ metallurgy be chemical engineering? From what I hear that is one of the toughest (and best paying ) engineering majors. A co-worker of mine is doing bio engineering, but his is not about agriculture, its about making prosthetics and the like. Im sure that the bio/agricultural you are talking about is much different than that. If your unsure, I say just do mechanical. With that you can get into grad school for a variety of different things, or you can have broad options when entering the work force (whatever your plan may be)

I agree college is pretty bullshit...but its hard to get a legal good paying job without a degree.

I dont agree. College is neither a requirement for, nor a guarantee of a good paying job. Its simply a place to learn about things you could never learn on the 'ave'.
Most people never complete college, yet there are still many millions of people in america that can afford a house, a vehicle and as much food as they could ever eat. No college degree required.

Yup. The giant misconception people have is that a college degree translates into money. Not so - college is not preparing you for a job most of the time, it really is just education for educations sake. My dad pressures the fuck out of me to go back, and after my first year at a U and my first year in trade school, I don't think I'll be wasting my time trying to impress my old man. Get your education on the ave

can you give examples of good paying jobs that don't require degrees? because I would like to check it out.

you can be a crabber or work at a processing plant up in alaska [you make BANK in a very short amount of time - the trade is it's dangerous, the hours are long, and you're only there to work].
peddle drugs, do construction, make cookies, be a dj. teach yourself something and be the best at it. i'm a welder, which is something you don't need a diploma in because your work is indicative of what you know [though certification helps] - and welders can make some serious bank. but yeah, college is not only the route to society's definition of "success" - explore your options man!
just ask yourself what you enjoy doing the most and odds are there's a job you can do in that [ehh probably except for drugs, and sex...but the rest is wide open]
