Which strains pin and fruit EASIEST?
    #754215 - 07/17/02 07:01 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Hey all,

Currently my FOAF is growing PR's and he is having a hell of a time getting them to pin

So what strains pin/fruit the easiest? I mean what strains just need to be put in a terr with roughly the proper conditions to pin, i mean like 100% rH, ligh, air exchange and a higher temp then needed for fruiting?

How easily to GT's pin/fruit?

Thanks!
Fd

Dude to have over 300 an some post you should know that GT's TC, GC B+,PES Hawian, there all pretty easy to grow. You could grow all those strain i just mention there with little problem if any with BRF/Vermiculite and some water. the only one you might even have a little of trouble out of would be PES Hawian. And i dout that if you give them the right growing Conditions Tempeture, water misting of the mushrooms ect..

You`re damn right about those PRs, I`ve got 2 casings and I`ve been waiting and fanning and fanning and waiting.
And I think finally I see primordia forming woohoo.
So hey, wait and all will be revealed.

Just because i have almost 400 posts doesnt mean i know everything. Of course i know pretty much every strain is easy to grow, thats common knowledge! I was asking what strains pin withought much effort, i.e. You dont have to get all the pinning/fruiting conditions EXACT for it to pin/fruit. PRs, penis envy and a couple other strains are tougher to grow than others due to many factors....

Anyone else know?

Thai ks are the fastest fruiting and growing cubensis in my experience.
tried many strains and none are faster and easier.
Great strain!

Ko Samui was really quick and REALLY easy to pin. Tassies pin before they had even began to colonise the casing layer - unbelievable!
PRs may require an isolate for good results - or try a thick casing layer and a few cold scratches if stroma appears

My kitty grew PF strain and they fruited like a mo fo. They fruited in the jars, on the cakes, and on the casing so far with ease. They all fruited within a week after birthing and some started fruiting in the jars. One drawback is there are a lot of aborts. She's had no complaints though about yield or potency.

Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.

Well contrary to all previous statemenst regarding PR fruiting, I been doing tubs of poo/straw with a PR isolate of sorts and I`m noticing way faster pinning times this time round.
My one tub hasn`t even finished colonising and the surface is allready covered in hundreds of nots.
So in this case everything has stayed constant and I haven`t checked on the tub all that much but yet they fruit.

Amazing!

Everyone says that the PF strain doesn't like to be cased.

Could you post a picture?

My cat would if she had a digital camera, but she's not full of shit. She has dozens of pins on the casing right now from the PF strain. She used a vermiculite only casing over and under crumbled 1/2 pint brf cakes. She left the casing in growing conditions (dark, little air exchange, temperatures around 80 f) for about two weeks except at 4 days when she checked it, at 7days when she recased the first few spots to show growth, and at 13 days when she moved it to the terrarium. She thinks her casing layer may have been a little too thick and uneven, but so far she is happy with the number of pins. Temperatures range from around 75 f at "night" when the flourescent light is off to around 85 f during the 8 hour "day" when the light is on. She used a simple plastic terrarium humidified with misting and perlite and fanned 3 times a day on average.

My cat hasn't heard that the PF strain doesn't do well in casings. She thought all cubensis did better with a casing.

My friend has also had great luck with koi samui's. Fast colinizers, pinners, and fast growers in his experience. Also they are some of the most visual Cubes he has ever had!!

Hmmm....I don't think my friend has tried the ks cased. She did some cakes a while back, but wasn't impressed with yield. I think I'll ask her to whip up a few ks syringes so we can check them out with casings. She works with straw quite a bit, but is about to begin some Scott's experiments.

KS growers who use various substrates - should she attempt with straw only, Scott's only, or a combination of the 2? Have any of you noticed the ks having a preference for any particular substrate mix? She never got a chance to sample any of the ks off cakes - looking forward to the visuals you speak of - how is the body load with this strain? She enjoys eq's, as the body load does not seem to be as intense as what she experienced with b+ and ph. Oops - did I just throw this thread off subject? If so, please excuse.......

there is no contest here. PF's house strain is by far the easiest to initiate pinset and get fruits from. no other strain comes even close to the number of pins, nor the ease/ idiot-proofness.

that having been said, it should be noted that if you don't enjoy spending hours with a tweezers picking off thousands of eensy weensy aborts, then patience is a virtue and just about any other cubensis will perform better in a tray

easy answer FD, Thai koh Samui, the fruit invitro with no light
they take about seven day s to pin and need nothing besides light and fresh air from time to time.
There the quickest and easiest i've ever seen out of all these strains, + means more difficult than average
Thai ks
Pes H +
Treasure Coast++
Gulf Coast+++
Guadalajara
Mazatapec
Orissa
Malaysian
Puerto rican+ it gets a plus because it yeilds so shitty long time to pin and slow growing fruits too.
Easy to fruit would be Thai ks, Mazatapec, Ecuador, and Malaysian even though malaysians through of a shitload of mutants
But enough chit chat go for Thai Koh Samui
This also goes out to anyone who is looking for some easy hassle free strains to try

Your girlfriend obviously understands that because the PF Classic spore-race has been grown and fruited selectively on brf and by cakes over a prolonged period, the genetics of this mushroom become specialised/selective
