My friend will be starting Golden teacher soon. Trying to stay away from dung. Read alot of teks lately and they seem to be just opinion on what works best. So can she have some more opinions? She's a complete novice.

It should perform fine on cakes, dung is a bulk substrate usedfor spawning colinised substrate to produce bigger crops.
Cakes will be fine, im sure all cubensis strains do fine on cakes.
6 cakes done properly should produce ample shrooms for u and a few friends.
As i guide, my very first cake to produce gave me 18 grams fresh, enough for a pretty decent dose. Another cake that i got a better mix with produced about 40 grams from its first flush.
Bear in mind that im still perfecting this method and there are others who hae produced pretty big flushes from cakes.
Unless u really want to get into this as a majour hoby, then cakes are fine, until u get bored and wanna try something different, ie woodlovers etc or wanna try you hand at using grains and casing them, which is also a good method, which you dont hae to use dung.
Im in the same boat as u, dont to use poo, hich is fine as i wouldnt know what to do with flushes larger than 100 grams, they would just go to waste.

So brown rice flower would be good for a start? I've also read about honey water, but I was a bit confused by that, Couldn't that add more nutrients while remaining sterile?

Re-read some teks. Thers alot of things people add to their Mixture. None of which are just "add honey water" im pretty sure? I as well am going with GT's! Colonizes fairly quickly (15daysish for me), and is supposedly a no brainer. I just use Verm, Spring drinking water, and freshly processed regular Brown Rice.. 90% Colonized.

The pf tek in my opinion is a very good method to start of with, specially if you dont have a pressure cooker, pf jars can be sterilised by steaming in a pot (but a pressure cooker is always prefered)
IF u have a coffee grinder, can make BRF with organic brown rice, or just buy it out of a health food store.
The teks are really simple and providing u follow the teks to the letter and read lots you will be fine.
As for honey watter, that is what is called a liquid culter, this is used for a few things, LC can make much more use out of spores.
From a spore syringe, u can inoc about 10 1/2 pf tek jars.
or
If u make an LC, 1cc of spores grown in an LC jar, can then go on to inolate lots of 1/2 pnt jars.
Also u can clone fruits of qualities u want to reproduce.
Working with an lc, colinisation of substrate will be much quicker. I have colinised a jar in as little as just over a week from LC.
For now head to the cultivation section with all the grow guides, read up on pf tek, give that a go. While u wait on your jars colinising, read up on liquid culutres, theres lot of teks and should explain everything.

GT sucks, in my opinion. They have too many aborts.

Don't mist too much; very lightly mist once a day, and don't mist directly. Spray upward and let the mist fall on the cake.

she followed the pf tek for making the terrrarium, with drip shield, heater and bubbler so she hopefully won't have too bad a chance with it.

bump. her cakes are showing no growth after six days. the temp range is 80-84. it looks like there is moisture on the side of a few jars. when making the cakes she followed PF's ratio, but fears boiling water may have made it into a few. is this going to be a problem? should she just wait until ten days before she make assumptions?

So right, so very right. They're great! It's been eleven days and all but one are colonizing very well. Nothing at all in that one. No contams yet... Knock on wood. Thanks!
