Due to the fact, that I don't know how much wood chips you took from each patch, I wouldn't want to say that it's fucked up.
If you just took VERY little amounts and don't ruin the mycelium structure of the patches you took it from, I guess it's ok, but it would be way more efficient (at least for the patches you took the wood chips from), to just take a bit of colonized wood chips and grow some myc of your own. It's pretty easy, so...

Now to your question: Storing "wild" wood chips in tipper ware wouldn't be that clever for they'll most likely just start to rot. There are SO many bacterias and other stuff in just a handful of them that I doubt you could actually prevent it from rotting.
Just fill a little box with it and cover it with paper towels.
If you don't plan grow fruits from the box, you don't have to water the wood chips. The mycelium can be re hydrated when spring comes and the wood chips will be taken outside...
BTW: Why would you want to use the wood chips in about a month??

to be sure i only have about a handfull of chips. that i got from a few bad picks. but no worrys. the patvh is still very healthy. im wondering because i plan on colonizing a large amount of woodchips near the end of the season, through winter, then in spring i will transplant them to a new local in a shady grove some place

so you really think they will rot :frown:
what should i do

you should just start colonizing now. You can always add more chips. Chances of contamination are going to be pretty high so be prepared for some disappointment. I have tried this with limited success. I put myceliated chips in jars with pasteurized chips. 3 out of 4 jars developed contam. the one I totally let go way too long and it dried out. Threw it in the ground anyway and it actually survived. Still waiting on it to see if it's going to fruit. Good luck!!

Since you'll get some nice spore prints in the next days  you should consider your wood chip transplantation as a side project.

When you got the prints, just do it as you would with Cubes (PF-Tek).
You'll see that the mycelium is pretty aggressive and will colonize the jars within one to two weeks and then can be mixed up with soaked wood chips.

It's very easy!

And instead of asking me if they'll rot just try it god dammit!

Good luck

well i am trying it  right now
i just wanted to know if i should let the chips breath, and therfore dry out for later use. or keep them covered to prevent contam.
its onyl this much chips + other crap that came with them, sticks and leaves and such --->

also you are right it would be easier just to do it with some quality control from spores.

iv never done a pf tek or grown any mushrooms of my own free will. i like to let mother earth handle that.
but this year im switching it up

hey i could still use some help here guys.

so iv been keeping the chips in the tuperware container with the lid closed, outside. its been building up lots on condensation, today i added a few more stem buts and i noticed alot of white fluffy strands spread across the lumpy cake of chips.

looks to me liek the mycelium is spredin  its not mold, at leased i dont think so.

so should i keep the lid closed, drill holes. add mrope chips. water it?
could use more input from those with woodlover propagation experience
