Turning On The Baby Sitter
    #7541027 - 10/20/07 10:48 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Sox Game just ended, they KILLED it 12-2. GO SOX!!!

Letting the TV be the baby sitter is not a new concept, but they are taking it to a new level.

There was a commercial after the game that made me a little upset. It was for Serius Radio TV service, I have never heard of it before, its probably new.

Commercial Rundown:
------
Two 5-7 year old children (brother and sister) in their living room attentively watching Sponge Bob Square Pants. Their mother calls for them to hurry up in a very pleasant sounding way, it is assumed that they are going for a car ride somewhere based on a quick shot of the car, mother, and house outside.

The living room, children, mothers demeanor, minivan, neighborhood, basically everything spells out upper middle class. After being called by their mother they look at the Sponge Bob program longingly, as if it hurts them to leave. Then there are a few clips of Sponge Bob doing whatever the hell he does, and then of the children staring vacantly at the screen even as they are leaving.

The brother and sister enter the minivan and instantly, "with the press of a button" the narrator explains, the children are watching the same program in the minivan. The final clip is a smiling mother in a completely silent minivan.
------

I just don't know where to begin so I will just leave it to you guys.

One thing I will mention is I don't blame the advertising agency, they are just doing their job. I blame the people who are too lazy to talk to their kids that make this an effective advertising campaign.

There are a lot of good informative and educational shows on networks like animal planet aimed towards children. But I guess showing a cartoon sponge sells more Serius service to lazy bitch full time moms.

I gotta stop now before I get going. BTW... I wonder how many of you guys clicked on this because you though it was about seducing babysitters, you sick bastards.

Later,

-CT

I clicked on this thinking it was about seducing babysitters. However, I do have some stuff to add.

T.V. is just a distraction. It doesn't only distract children. It distracts just about everyone. That's why it's considered a relaxing activity to veg and watch TV. Your brain shuts off temporarily. I believe that a lot of people these days are living their life by hopping from one distraction to another. Hence our society being the way it is.

Fuck TV.

Maybe we should just turn this thread into discussion about methods of seducing babysitters.

Umm I hate to say it but I agree. Im scared for the future, even the relativly near future. Peak oil, climate changes, unbridaled capitalism/cronyism (= fascism), tenuous (oil based) global economy, shaky middle east . . . the shit hits the fan soon I say, one way or another.

Everybody needs something to belive in. I believe I'll have another beer.
