Magnets and High Temps

I was always told that high temps (such as pressure cooking) will wreck magnets. But it's just as strong as a cold bar that is new. Whats the deal?

There are several types of magnets. Some are for higher temps. Research and you will see...

The first poster gave you the answer "magnetic stir bar". It looks like a long, rubber coated pill. They're used with stir plates to thoroughly stir and mix up liquid cultures before they're used.

High temperature does not ruin magnets. Once they cool, they're fine. While hot, they won't work. RR

For a specific metal, there is the Curie temperature, a temperature where it can't sustain a magnetic field because it has too much heat energy in it.
Most likely the stir rods are ferromagnets (I dont know, I dont have a stir rod). There would be a rotating metal coil with a DC voltage on it making it an electromagnet, in turn magnetizing the ferromagnet (probably powdered iron)
Little black bars. Probably rubberized so you dont mess up your glass beaker.
