did they drop their leaves? if not just cut them off they will produce more later. only when the pereskiopsis drops its leaves do i let the offshoots grow to revive the stock. however if you have patience why not let them grow and graft more.

why would flat grafting suck? two slices attach and your done. i get 99-100% success. why go through all the extra work and time to let your seedlings get to that size to be grafted? then all the cutting. what is your success ratio on this style of grafting? maybe if you have lots of time and minimal amounts of grafts why not try it. for now i will stick with flat grafting. in fact im making 100 grafts in a few days when my extra pereskiopsis come in. i have already stripped mine to stumps. i guess i will do a grafting log to show my success ratio and ease of flatr grafting. would it take longer then a hour to do a 100 of those grafts? it only takes a hour for me.

yeah the impale method may take longer to do. but when they take they grow a lot faster than flat grafts.
I am getting 100% success now too. I have lost a lot flat grafting.
also I have 100+ I will be grafting soon so I will document it....

how about you and i start a thread. when will you be doing your grafts? i can wait when they come in. we will race. you might be right that yours grow faster considering how much vascular tissue is connecting. i say we do it with monthly updates you down? i have seen grafting compitions elsewhere its time we bring one to the shroomery.

hehe sounds like a plan
but yeah it is the amount of vascular tissue connecting that makes it grow fast.  the pin method ensures the best connection also.
I gotta regenerate some Pereskiopsis so it may be a few weeks before I am ready.

I would think flat grafting is better for beginning grafts. I wouldn't want to try that until I get more experienced at it.

you must not be getting the vascular rings aligned. do you keep them in high humidity for 2 weeks?

Your right about flouros being best. I had my seedlings under HPS. It worked fine for the first month but as soon as they turned from the initial yellow to green the HPS started burning them bad. They all started turning red. I even tried tissue paper as shade cloth but that didn't work. I finally moved some under Flouros and others outside to the shade and they started to turn green again.

@cpw: Concerning your needle method for getting the graft to take better, would you think it would also work to, say, take a double-pointed needle (cactus or metal) and impale the perk vertically, then put the cactus that's being grafted onto the tip of the perk with the needle impaling the bottom of it?
