Oh man! Looks like the graft took pretty well. Are you gonna run some more experiments with those other seedlings? Way to go with all those seedlings! You've got fun times ahead of you. <3 succulents.

update.... Octavius is doing great. also on a side note.... sometimes the impale grafts don't take so well or just stop growing or something because theres just not a good enough vascular connection. so what I did was regraft some but when I stuck them onto the Pereskiopsis I stuck a long spine from another cacti right through the center of the bottom. every one of those type grafts took very very well. I would imagine it would be cleaner just to use needles or pins. and not only that but use them on EVERY graft so the vascular connection stays tight and guarantees 100% succes at the graft taking.

doesnt look like she has grown much since 11/15/07 so id imagine those arent doing anything. the only one pumping it up would be the base.

Have you seen a big difference in your frankenstein graft compared to a regular graft? Would you say it is growing much faster than most grafts?

sturmer..... yes they do grow faster d.p. yeah it went into dormancy unfortunately but now shes picking up again. but I did have other cacti the same size and Octavius has now passed them. so maybe the grafts are feeding it a little. I wish I has a temp control growroom though so my cacti would grow in full throttle all year long but they just dont at the moment lol. so yeah anyways heres some new pics of the impale method I just took....

blade = dirtier than a $20 whore
also a small one....

My Peresks just started to form offshoots on my Loph grafts. Have you ever let them get big eneough than rooted the offshoots from yours? Or do you just pull them off right away? I no it will slow down your grafts growth but if you don't have allot of Peresks thats another 2 do work with.
Do you even get offshoots with your grafting method?

well if yours have dropped leaves i recommend leaving them be till they are large then the base stock. this allows the roots to grow much larger and revive the base stock to full growth. then chop it.

so you dont hollow out the scion? you just stab it through? doesnt that damage the vascular tissue?

no I do hollow the scion. thats what the third pic is of but its hard to see it. I use the razor's tip. sturmer ... yes I have a few that I have ungrafted and rooted on their own. heres a pic of one of them.... of course it would be a lot bigger if it weren't dormant for 4 months along with the rest of my cacti.
oh wait I read it wrong. yes I have let the offshoots of Pereskiopsis get big enough to root :-)

seems like its less work just to graft them from earlier stages then to go through all of that. if it works, i guess why not.

Thanks. I was wondering on what I should do. This is my first graft and the Peresks have just today started to form offshoots. Both of them. I realize it will slow down my grafts growth but it might be worth it to let it grow an inch or so and root the Peresks offshoots on their own to get two new root stocks to grow.
I'd like to get a Peresk collection as big as yours. I have dozens of seedlings I'd like to try grafts with.
