possibly silvatica?
    #7540348 - 10/20/07 06:32 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I've read a couple posts about other people finding mushrooms just like this regularily on hunts in Ontario.
I thought since I finally have a descent camera, I would Snap a few and see if they look like anything
familiar to anyone else.(They kind of remind me of silvatica and vary quite a lot in cap colour).

Habitat: Growing on grasses and moss in and around woods
Gills: Whitish grey
Stem: white, fragile, solid stemed.
Cap: Dark brown when when young (some almost black) fading to mostly white with some brown
Spore Print: NA (at this time)
Bruising: Not noticeable
Location: Found on almost every hunt i've taken in Ontario Canada.

I've also found some of these that were identical but with a blue/grey top growing in massive
Patches. These usually grow in groups of 10 or 20 in both spring and fall.never growing taller than about 3 inches tall and the cap never exceeds the size of a "nickel".

Thanks all.

Most deffinately some type of mycena, possibly mycena gaelericulata. I find those suckers everywhere here in Montana too!

Man you nailed that, I don't know how I missed that species, but looking now, there are many different types of mycena I see regularily, So You actually gave me an accurate id of a few mushrooms i was wondering about! Nice, greatly appreciated.
