all my panaeolus pictures
    #7540266 - 10/20/07 06:04 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

hello, i like to post all my pictures of last years of panaeolus species, in Mexico is easy to find panaeolus in the beginning of the rainy season , but difficult in the end, next year i will try to solve many mystery's in the panaeolus genus,Mexico is very diverse in panaeolus, as far i have observe, here is some few pictures...
panaeolus antillarun or the correct name and other panaeolus this one is active in high dose more that 40 ,of course antillarun is inactive..

panaeolus cyanescens or copelandia cyanescens

pan cyan.

pan cyan

pan cyan

same

at the left pan cyan a medium big one size, and in the right few ps.Mexicana note the purple-brown gill and the black one in panneolus.
the same pan with few more PS. mexicana in the upper left and below a pan cyan that was growing next to the pin of PS. cubensis. i just put the other to compare size and that´s how i am you know me .

same more close

the cyan next to the PS. cubensis pin

the pin of cubensis so you can compare all the sizes of mushrooms ..

the tigrito panaeolus , maybe another type of panaeolus not cyanescens focus in the back specimen

now focus in the front specimen

another tigrito next to a cyan

lateral view

cyan old and not so specimens

cyan

the factory and home ground

mushrooms of panaeolus sometimes get really big , i have not so good pictures , but maybe next year.sometimes many species of panaeolus grow in the same pie , or sometime mix with psilocybe or other genus in this picture are some panaeolus cyanescens, and some panaeolus that i not sure of id but active, not in the copelandia more in the panaeolus possible sprictinus or papiolonaceuss

the cyan get real big here and the tigritos not so much , here is a common size PS. mexicana in mi hand.-

see you next year

all my best.........

hello,  thank you guys.

Bridgelisa the tigritos is  a specie that grow here in Mexico and i have notice also that bonghittr is also found then  it in  another location :tongue2:.there is no study in this specie is for sure active and in the copelandia family  not in the panaeolus, bruise a
lot, and may be copelandia tropicalis, or mexicana, or something else, i doubt to be cyanescens sometimes they get  very reddish , i wish i had many pictures of this variant. and from the other active panaeolus not so potent as the copelandia  but interesting also ...
is raining , a bit , the last blessing ....

The tigrito's are interesting. It will be cool to find out what they are specifically but Gerhardt says Panaeolus (Copelandia) mexicana is an invalid species. I need to translate the German to find out his reasoning for discarding it.

yeah i have also heard that from mexicana, that may be the same tropicalis, or maybe Cambodians, sorry, but you know no one study panaeolus around here are few things from Guzman but that all i guess and few studies in the 50´s, 60´s 70´s , noting actual, , this year i was too late for then , the psilocybe did not want me to visit the panaeolus, or was i the one that get seduced for the secret mystic, also i hope you let us know about this new species soon ....:EDITED BY GG: try not to mention that here:,i have new location you may like to try ....:EDITED BY GG: try not to mention that here:, until then maybe bonghittr have the same specie..see ya

Its very small and in fact I already attempted it.

-----------------------------------------------------
Original German from Gerhardt (1996)

Copelandia mexicana Guzmán, nom. excl.

Typusstudien:

---------------------------------
Translated:

Copelandia mexicana Guzmán, nom. excl.

Study type:

Spores rhombic, relatively thick-walled, flat, smooth, with a strong germ pore, 7-11 x 5-7 x 3.5-4.5 μm, color in the light microscope brownish, transparent; Pleurocystidia and Cheliocystidia with thick yellow walls, the apex with excreted crystals, about 35-50 μm long.

The bright color of the spores in the microscope and their rhomboid form indicates that this fungus can not belong to the genus Panaeolus senso lato. Also, the fact that the spores in potassium (hydroxide) do not fade, but rather darken, speaks against it. The form of the hymenium cystidia is also totally uncharacteristic for Panaeolus or Copelandia. The crystalline precipitates on the apex of the cystidia are very reminiscent of Inocybe metaloids. For the exact assignment to a particular genre, I can not decide here.

I did this rather quickly and my German is very rusty. It is probably a good idea to have it checked over.

No, I don't speak German but I am familiar with Germanic languages enough that I can do crude translations of French, Spanish and German. It also helps that many of the mycological terms are similar and descriptions follow certain patterns.

Thanks for those corrections, especially the "light" microscope one. That trippped me up as sometimes compound microscopes are called light microscopes.

hello thank you for the information this is 11 years old , i knew about it , but there is no been  good study since then ?, well  maybe is time for the new mycologist  kick out the old ones, begging using DNA identification for taxonomic features , it will need at least 10 member in each genus around the world we can all share our finds and open  the wall of knowledge beyond the unknown territory , jaja  is a dirty and hard  job but someone  have to do it, all the people in the top of the mycological career , are the best, for sure, but they are getting old , time  for new blood get in to the system :yesnod:
so i´m still confuse where do  they put  copelandia mexicana , Mexico is so huge, diverse, and full of cow and pastures, that i no doubt that special  panaeolus or copelandia grow here, it will be like denied the existence of another beings  in the universe ....
but lot  of work have to be carry on
thanks workman and Prankster239

After doing a bit more research, I am convinced that Copelandia mexicana is actually a species of Inocybe. The metaloids are classic Inocybe and the spores are similar to several described species of Inocybe. I have made an entry into my shroomery journal with more information including a translated version of Guzman's original description.

It would be well worth looking for this species to secure a good photograph and samples.
