If I put a colonized grain kernel on Agar will I be able to tell for sure weather its contaminated or not after it grows out a bit?

Yes. You can also transfer healthy mycelium away from the contaminant, thus cleaning up the culture.

you can also place suspect kernels in between two pieces of peroxidated agar and the mycelium grows faster than the contamination does .. in effect out running the contamination. once the mycelium grows away from the contam .
take a culture put it on a new clean petri dish and grow it out ..
checking for contamination .. agar is awesome !
