Is it normal for freshly harvested buds to smell citrus-like?

Just curious. I've made a couple attempts at growing and this seemed to be the case both times.
Also, can you do any harm by cutting the buds off the stalk a tad early? I read that you should wait until the branches snap between your fingers but the buds seem to be dry pretty well before that happens.
I guess I don't understand the whole curing process as well as I should. Thanks in advance!

i always thought it smelled like bubblegum but that could well be down to strain
when the buds are dry to the touch on the outside and the stems are relatively dry u should start the curing process... just put your buds into jars and open them up for an hour every day to let the moisture out... this allows any moisture at the centre of the buds to equalise throughout the entire bud... slowly drying it so its not so dry that it ends up as dust when u break it up for smoking... if condensation forms on the glass its still too wet, so let it dry a while longer...

really depends on the type of plant. some smell like pine, some are fruity, skunky, etc. curing is basically putting your already pretty dried nuggets into a jar and opening the lid for a few minutes every day for a month or longer if u can hold out.

Most indoor hybrids will give off a sweet smell, its just a blending of genetics giving it a very nice terpene profile.

Ever wondered why some bud is called bubblegum ice, sour diesel, skunky or pine/grapefruit? It's all in the terpines, and boy do they smell nice.
Can terpines be steam extracted? That'd make for a great industry, pressing the aroma out to stick in perfume bottles, and then sell odourless bud.

Well I don't know about the orderless bud thing but they sell the terpines as a perfume or incense type of thing.
