Sally pruning time!
    #7539962 - 10/20/07 04:47 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Ok, I received this Sally and it was tall, probably only 2" shorter than you see here.
I want to bush it out a little so it will sit on a shelf, with limited headroom, easier.
My question is how many cutting can I take?
I put 3 red lines in. Are these suitable cuttings? Or are they too much? Let me know.

Each cutting needs a node on top with leaves and a node on bottom for roots to grow from. If you made cuts on those red lines, they'd have no bottom node for roots.

Roots wont form out of the stem or cutting eh? So I could really only take one cutting right out of the middle?

Like this?

Yes, you could do that, leaving the motherplant with two nodes with leaves and the cutting with leaves and a node for roots.

Best to get some other advice first though. There are people here with much more experience growing Salvia than me.

single node cuttings will work, sally will root all up the stem as well as from the nodes... but its much better to take cuttings with two or more nodes.
