hello everyone,
just posted elsewhere but was told to try here....
I just put some dried shrooms on a white table to count some out (liberty caps in the uk) when i noticed some really small lice crawling around the shrooms...
now ive been eating dried shrooms (i never make tea) for years so i must have eaten loads of these things
can anyone enlighten me as to what they are, and if they are safe?
i just checked some freshly dried shrooms and they look fine so im thinking that they could be dust mites but they look big - not huge - but visable
cheers!

Another possibility is some sort of mite. I have found mites in and on mushrooms several times, and they would probably survive being on dried mushrooms better than fungus gnat maggots.
Happy mushrooming!

thanks for the replies!
ive seen the larvae coming out whilst drying the shrooms, and they just dry up and die (i think)...
but the dry mushrooms are from last season so i didnt think they were related to the larvae..
I kept these mushrooms in a carrier bag so was wondering if they got in...
i will keep this seasons in a jar and see what happens!
cheers!
ps. i saw this but it sounds like its a load of shit (lice that stays in the system)

If they are small, white, and slow moving you are likely to have grain mites. Getting rid of any moisture will take care of them (or any other mite for that matter). They often plague us invertebrate collectors by feeding on any leftover scraps of food >:(. they are not harmful to us, but suck ass for tarantulas/centipedes/scorpions/etc...
