trahsing molded brf cakes
    #7538787 - 10/20/07 10:20 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I have a couple cakes that have developed small green spots so I knw they are trash now

but some peeps are saying that I should bury them outside

now lets say if per chance they do eventually produce shrooms wouldnt they still be contamed?

why are people telling me to bury them outside the house as if they would still be edible?

does the mold die off eventually?

You can eat mushy's from contammed substrate so long as the mold isn't actually on the mushroom. I told you to bury them b/c you may have at least some kind of chance to get some fruits. Even if you don't wouldn't it be nice to try rather than to just throw them away? I don't know many people that DON'T do this. The substrate may have a chance outside to survive as well. Theres tons of area it can spread to vs. in a jar with contam in it.

Although you may get nothing from it, you may possibly get mushy's. Theres absolutely nothing to lose by trying.

so IF it does produce mushies even though I saw mold spot on it after I put it in the ground if they do come they are safely edible?

man I might have to go get some horse poo and crumble the cakes and bury em about an inch and keep it hydrated every day

Mushrooms from contaminated substrates are fine to eat as long as the contamination isn't on the actual fruit.

I do that with cow shit alone I grab from the fields. Just mix it with some good soil and keep it hydrated, I usually have a variety of species that grow from it. I think thats pretty cool tho. I've seen amazing results from outdoor pf cake/hpoo grows...

Check PM's

I know I said it in PM but just to stress it...don't pack down the soil on top.

What are the options for placing the cakes, or any spent cakes for that matter, in with some house plants. I would imagine that with some fertilizer and plenty of moisture you could get some extra flushes out with that way.
