I've never seen this brand of pressure cooker in the UK so I wanted to ask some of you North Americans for your opinions - is this a decent make/model of pressure cooker? have you experienced any problems with this type
"PRESTO 18 QUART ALUMINUM PRESSURE COOKER CANNER NEW Easy-to-read dial gauge for accurate pressure control. Air vent/cover lock allows pressure to build only when cover is closed properly, prevents cover from opening until pressure is safely reduced and gives visual indication of inside pressure. Extra strong, warp-resistant aluminum construction for fast, even heating. Includes cooking/canning rack and instruction/recipe book. UL Listed."
Thanks

They make a mighty fine pc if you ask me! You shouldn't have any problems with warping the aluminum unless you run it dry for some reason.

I've got a 16,8 and a really old 3.5 quart model 204 (from the 50s I think) If you treat it well and don't drop it or dent the rim it'll last just about forever. heat it gradually up to boil and turn the heat way down so the weight just barely rocks.

This is the biggest hunk of shit I've ever seen! I've had the same 18quart Presto that I bought 5 years ago. I haven't used it but a few times in the last 2 because I got a 21 quart(alum.) 2 years ago. I replaced a seal once that was under the pressure gauge. But that was 'cause I wanted to and not 'cause it went out

I use a Presto as well, and it rocks. Wouldn't choose any other brand.

Well any company that still supplies parts for stuff they made 60 years ago THAT STILL WORKS is pretty OK in my book! I mean holy crap... I can't keep a toaster alive for 3 years! If wall-mart ever comes up with a Durabrand Pressure cooker it better come with an organ donor card. I'm not putting down AA since I've never used it, I'm sure it's nice but I'll stick with what I know. Presto comes in stainless steel too if you're worried about aluminum being too weak by the way.

Imagine improving everything on a presto, and you've got an AA!
But I must say that Presto is my favorite, non-AA cooker, and realize that presto is far more reasonable for most people. In fact I still use one of mine when I don't need the 10 gallon capacity of my AA. Yeah, I said one of them, I've got at least 4 of them. See, I don't plan ahead, and would never have a new seal when I needed it. So I'd just go buy a new one and swear I'd order the seal the next day. Few months later, the seal would go out and I'd do the same damn thing! (so I bet you can guess what my favorite feature on the AA is, yes, there is no rubber seal!).
But prestos offer more functionality and are quieter than a mirro for sure...
