Wait - monotubs don't need a casing layer?

Is this true?
You can just throw em into fruiting once fully colonized?

Well, the idea is they don't require a fruiting chamber. My friend who grows them where it is legal does this: make spawn jars, pasteurize the bulk sub (hpoo, verm, and many other things), mix colonized spawn and sub in a clean storage tub, and then cover with super wide crinkled wax paper. He pulls the paper up once a day to mist the top, keeping the entire sub close to field capacity and to get a little FAE. He stores and works the tubs like this, with the top lids on too, in his garage as long as temps are right, or in his house, until they start to pin. Then he leaves them with the paper on til a good pinset starts, and then pulls off the wax paper voila! they fruit.

No they don't need a casing layer. Once fully colonized, you can introduce to FAE and it'll begin to knot and everything will happen as with a cake

correct.

I don't use casing layers in monotubs.
after exhaustive testing, casing layers proved to add nothing
more than extra work and mess.
no better yield.

I had an absolutely optimal substrate though.

if your substrate is lacking, a casing layer may be in order.
but for my needs, casings for cubes are a no go in monotubs.
