YES. they are horrible. my poor passiflora
the moth comes and lays its eggs on the fresh growth and the caterpillars hatch and eat the tips off the vine. really sucks. i have to go out there every day and squish the little orange eggs before they hatch.

I am new and if I do an incorrect post I will learn soon but I do have an answer to the worm problem on your passion flower. BT it is short for Bacillus Thuringiensis. Available at almost any well stocked nursery. This bacteria is specific for worms. You simply dilute according to instructions and spray it on your plants. The worms eat it and die quickly. It does not work on any other pests.
The manufacture says don't get it on your hands or inhale but use up to the day of harvest. This stuff is very very effective and I would put a few days between spraying and harvest for my mental sake but they have to eat some to kill the worms. It works on Burgmansia, tomatoes and anything worms like. In a week there will be no more worms and repeat treatments kill young worms that hatch.
I have not learned to PM on the board but I have found the best way to make a relaxing extract from Passion Flower.
Again if I have made mistakes please help me fix as I am a newbie to the forum. There are other bacteria specific bug killers as well that work as well as alternatives.

Those black and orange caterpillars only eat passionflower plants as far as I know. The eggs are orange and easy to knock off. I find knocking off the eggs and relocating the caterpillars to be the best method of control.

those are the catepillars of the orange and black Gulf Fritallary butterfly. passifloras are one of the only host plants for the larva. the leaves grow back and its not like they are killing the plant. try picking all the catepillars off and keeping them in one of those insect cages with a few select leaves to munch, then after they metamorphose into the adult stage you can let them fly away. or plant more passion vines. but please dont kill the baby butterflies

Mine have been eaten up by the same caterpillars. I just pick em off the plant when I see too many and give them a toss. I don't want to kill them all, or no more butterflies. Besides, the passion flowers rebound pretty quickly.

what audi0 said.
it's easy to keep caterpillars in a container with a few fresh leaves until they turn into butterflys*

I've started planting sacrificial plants for the butterflies/moths in my area. Had 10+ black swallowtails come off of my dill last year (and still had a decent harvest). It's cool to see them grow too.
