lol this should be interesting

so when i unstacked all my colonizing casings, the bottom one was very squished and had lots of hard dead mycelium ontop from the heat/weight. so i spazzed out a littleand filled another pan with 1/2 inch of verm at the bottom, got the verm wet, broke up the pained casing (rather unevenly) into plum-sized chunks and then threw another 1/2 inch of wet verm on top of that and put it back into the incubator.

i know this is probably the dumbest thing ever and totally unnecessary. when i broke up the myc there was lots of healthy happy wet myc underneath. obviously my pinset will suffer since the top layer isnt even at all and it resembles a mountain range and in some places the myc is barely covered.

whats everyones opnion on this lazy half assed fix? what would they have done in my place? should i just leave it a few days to regrow back together and then throw it in the fruiting chamber?

I'd think the healthy myc on top should be alright. It's good that you got the dead stuff off though.

I recently had a problem similar to your's. Just take the tray into a somewhat sterile room with still air. Wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap and then break up all the plum sized pieces into smaller pieces. Put tinfoil back on top of your tray and give it a few days to recover. Case, and then stick the tray in whatever you're using as a fruiting chamber.

It should even out your tray a little bit.

This could be wrong procedure though, but it's worked for me in the past.

it has wet verm stuck to the tops and bottoms now though. if i did rebreak it up a second time, wouldnt the verm stuck to the myc act almost as a barrier and stop the myc from growing back together? i admit i should have broken it up better and put more effort into it the first time.

Does mycelium grow around wet vermiculite in cakes? Scrape the top, break up the plum sized pieces and recase once the mycelium recovers.

That's what I would do if I was in your situation.
