salvia experts wanted !!!!!

OK, so it's time to replant the salvia that was shipped to me. The instructions they gave me were to crumble all the dirt off the root system and spread them around in the new, bigger pot and then cover with soil. I tried doing this but the root system was so extensive that I had to run water over them to get the dirt from them. When all was said and done the dirt was off of them but they were no less tangled. I did my best to spread them out without damaging them but it still looked kind of clumped to me. You guys think it will rebound and just keep continuing to develope its root system or should I uproot it again or what. Any ideas would be helpful. Preferably someone that has replanted Salvias before.

Thanks

I've replanted salvias numerous times, and any other plant atleast 500 times...

I suggest, if you cannot detangle the roots good enough just try your best, even if it means just stretching the root tangle ball mess apart a little and letting it sit looser than it was. then just put it in the pot holding the plant by the stalk near the beginnings of the root and pouring in the mosit dirt over the roots picking the plant up and down a little bit maybe about 2 cm up and down vertical to allow the dirt to get in good and have it nice and rooted.. then once you get it up to a good depth ive it a good watering and leave him alone..

Now the roots will either spread out or rebound itself.. overtime anyway it will definitely rebound.
Once it rebounds in its pot, you can pick it out and actually give the roots a good chop and cut it down (not too much of course) and it will solve your bounding and clumping of the root problem..
