Does anyone here play online poker?
I play every weekend with my friends and I've won the last 3 tournaments. I was thinking about trying online poker with real money but I'm a little hesitant.
I have a PokerStars account and did a freeroll tournament just to check it out and I got 141/10,000, which seems pretty good for a first try.
I might check out a few more sites though. Or I might try to win some freeroll cash and then try some small buy-in tournaments.
Who else here plays? What sites?

yeah i play alot of poker.
i play mostly at expekt.com and titanpoker.com, pkr.com sometimes because they have such fancy 3d graphic client lol. i prefer expekt tho, i also play on sports odds there, mostly basket and ice hockey, i usually play super turbo sit and go tournaments and wins usually 60% of the time. (i keep statistic over everything lol)
however , its quite addicting.. and i have my downswings with lots of losses, so all in all , i dont make much money on poker. but i did win 6000 dollars on a satelitte not long ago so thats great, however all in all, i win more than i loose so the curve is upward.. i won 500 dollars total in august, 300 in september, and im well above 6500 because of the satelitte this month. i never put in more than 100 dollars per month as a general rule not to let things get out of hand.
i never play with play money because its boring , and the games there are completly diffrent that money tables.
if you want my advice, go for sit and go tournaments, start with 1 dollar tournaments, where you win 4-5 dollar if you win and learn there instead of play money tables. then move up to 50-100 dollar tables when you learn tactic. ¨how i make most money is by fishing for fishes, poor players and poor bluffers, i check with great cards and wait for them to make huge bets or all ins, then i clean them out.

I used to play party poker a lot but no since that's a no go usually do poker superstars. Setting a monthly limit is definitely a good idea things can get out of control in a hurry haha.

if you play the 1 and 2 dollar tournaments, you arent going to learn how to play the game, because it is nothing but river rats and donkeys.
You gotta start out a 5 or more, atleast by that range there are a few people at the tables that dont reraise preflop with a 10 2 off suit (only Doyle can pull that off).
I play bodog poker and I have played a few other sites and so far I like bodog the best. You get to pick your own seat, and you can pick almost any denomination of sit and go tourneys that you want... not just 2-5-10-15 etc.
I lost a good bit on some sports games at the beginning of the year, so I was down about 200, now I got about 350 in my account....
so, my sports betting sucks, but my poker play isnt half bad.

thanks for the advise everyone. I'll probably start off with like a $5 when I get my next paycheck. Having a monthly limit is a reallllly good idea.
I'm still deciding about the site I wanna play on. Does anyone know where I can get a list of them?
I'm going to the casino for the first time in like 2 weeks. I'll probably be too nervous to sit at a table though and end up play slot machines all night LOL

On bodog I started with $20 an hour or two ago and I'm up to about $35 right now. Not bad if I can keep it up.

read at least 4 poker books before putting money into the game
if you haven't read any, chances are you simply don't know how to play, and you are going to lose money without realizing it(most people think they win overall, but in actuality less than 20% of players make money over time)
the most important thing second to learning to the game is bankroll management
you should be using a MINIMUM of 30-40 full buy-ins(cash games) or 40-50 entries (tournies) so you need $40-50 to play $1 sit n go's
if you are serious about making money on poker, and you don't want to play "just for a hobby" then i seriously recommend don't put more money into your poker account if you're low and don't take money out if you're high. no matter what amount you have proper management is far more important than playing at the games you "want" to play.
i've made about $800, and i haven't deposited a dime. if you're super poor like i was, simply search for PRIVATE freerolls(public ones are an absurd waste of time) where there's approximate $1 in prize pool for every person(public freerolls get anywhere from 100-1000 people per $1 - COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME). you can find these by checking out poker forums (the less popular the forum or the poker client where the tourney is held, the more likely to have a good prize to entries ratio) or by downloading various poker clients, going to the "private" tab of tournies, and googling the tourney names in hopes to find their respective forums
good luck

ravin0fff, thanks for all the info! I appreciate it. I'm a member of RB already but I'm going to check out some other forums as well. I have read a few pokerbooks but you can never have too much info!

your best bet is to figure out how much you can afford to lose at poker per week, then once a week take all of that money to a single cash table, or maybe sit with half or a third so you can buy in multiple times if you need to. usually even on a good night you will only make a little more than double your money, but sometimes you will make 3x 4x times your money. when this happens take all your winnings and go to a higher blind table. here if you can 3x your money thats where you quit and withdraw your winnings. perhaps even 2x to be safe. if you lose it all then you just say fuckit, and do it again next week.
if you intend to play daily, sit and go's are probably your best bet.

I just stumbled upon bodogs crap tables. I am playing the free-table, but this thing has to be rigged or something, I have played about 5 or 6 different times over the past few days for about 30-45mins and won a good 2-8grand each time. I don't want to drop a grand on this yet, but I have yet to lose.
