1. vegetative growth refers to " in the jar" not the beginings of fruiting.

2. who told you that?

1. sorry i misunderstood you, you are correct, the mycelium is recovering and can be considered in veg. growth. but i have not experienced, nor heard much of the contaims you complain of with little air exchange.

2. it is recommended that newbs sterilize the casing because there is less chance of contaims. this does kill some beneficial bacteria that actually promotes healthy growth.
---i just dont see either point as a mushroom myth.

These myths were largely in your head Hombre. Many folk, including myself advocate sterile casing for cubes. SOME species of mushrooms will benefit more than others from pastuerized casing but not cubensis. Proper pastuerizing is an art...Sterilization is easy...And I have noticed NO difference except reduced contams by sterilizing casing
