is there really a difference? i have a liteon dl dvd burner ive used a million times and i get a new spindle of 16x dvd+R memorex and a new bios flash to the drive and now i cant burn dvds.  i can burn cds and i can read dvds, just not burn them.  nero burns the dvd, but then no dvd player can read them.  there is data on the disc and everything.  all comps do the same thing. ive tried rolling the flash back and even changing the update with no success. or is it just broke?

memorex is not good quality media, they do bulk buys from other companies of B class media, go with verbatim if you shop at stores in the US...or order taiyo yuden online if you shop online...

but, personally ive never noticed a difference, everything i burn works fine, except for some shit ass spin-x i bought once, and promptly returned...

have you tried different discs yet to see if that is the problem?

peace

My guess, the firmware upgrade fried the dvd abilities,
but I would get a couple of other makers of dvd,s
and see first. Also have you got another way than Nero?

Just for curiosities sake, is this a Light-scribe burner?
I know they are picky about firmware upgrades.

From what I understand, the only media you should use are Taiy-Yudens, which are only available on the net on heek websites and tehy're usually completely blank.

Two things I have noticed with burning optical media... most older drives do not support all types of media... some drives work with dvd+r, others with dvd-r, some with +rw, etc... if it still won't burn and you know the media is of the correct type, and you have ruled out the OS as a problem (different burning software), then it is probably bad hardware (optical drive).

These Taiyo-Yuden's were reccomended to me by an audiophile: http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1160

Taiyo's are considered to be the industry standard; all the brands you see in the stores are considered to be sub-par.
