This wobbles the mind. The Yankee offer was $5M per for 2008 plus another 1 for making the playoffs, another 1 for making the LCS, and another 1 for making the WS. Not winning, making. He was paid $7M last year, which was almost double the next highest paid manager. He had an opportunity, and a damn good one, of making 8 next year. Even if he didn't make the playoffs at all he was still going to be the highest paid manager in baseball. And he turned it down. I don't think he ever had any intention of returning. If he thinks a contract that guarantees him the top manager pay with incentives that would make him the highest paid ever is an insult he is quite the touchy twat. Did I forget to mention that if he made the WS the contract would automatically vest for 2009 at $8M? Why, yes, yes I did.
For all the times he was not made to blame, and I'm one of them and still am, because of the "he didn't hit into three double plays" or the #1 starter sucked nuts or any of that other shit that the team didn't do, there is a corollary. He didn't hit the homers or pitch the shutouts either. So good bye, Joe, you phony twat. If you really did want to be the Yankee manager you would be. At more money than any other manager in the game. In the end the best that can be said of Joe is that he didn't fuck it up. Which IS a good thing, just not that GREAT a thing.
On to the future. The best news of the off season so far is that the arch-retard Dusty Baker already has a job.:D I don't think Mattingly is ready, he has never managed. My choice would be Girardi but he has a bit of a thin skin. He also has a manager of the year award and would probably manage a pitching staff better than Torre. I have also heard that there are people in the Yankee organization who hate him. Too bad. He's the man. Bowa said that following Torre can only be a lose/lose deal. I disagree. Torre actually set the bar pretty low the last three years, considering the payroll. Twelve for twelve is great but oh for three sucks. Well, there is my brilliance for the day. I'm off to be stupid in PA&L. Because I'm pissed. Both ways.

I don't think that he had any intention of returning. I think that he wanted to make them waste their time in meetings and come up with a deal so that he could tell them to go fuck themselves, no matter how much money they offered. Personally, I can't blame him. Maybe not the right thing to do, but I'd also be pissed about the way Georgie has publicly talked him down many times in the past if I were him.
Now about AROD....I'm thinking that he may not return either, but we'll see.

Steinbrenner is stupid cunt that talked all this shit and then turned around and did the opposite and Torre might come back after he gets on his fucking knees and makes an even more impressive offer. Props to Joe fuck the Yankees. Go suck a dick Steinbrenner.

Stienbrenner will be daed within 2 years, quite possibly sooner. His sons are getting at least something of a say, and remember, no matter how long George stuck with Torre, he has always been of a mindset that changing managers can and does help a team.
The BIGGEST issue is obviously the Yanks knew they were either taking a risk or telling Joe goodbye, so how does this effect Rivera, ARod and the other guys??

They made Torre an excellent offer, far better than any other manager gets. If widdle Joey wants to be all butt hurt than he can can just, like I said, fuck off. The nerve of the Yankees expecting exceptional performance for exceptional pay. Outfuckingrageous.

Oh please don't think I'm kissing his hiney. I could live for the rest of my life off of a 1/3 of what he'll bring home, not to mention your point to boot. BUT, who are they gonna replace him with, and does this send a message or otherwise mess up what they want to do as far as free agency goes??

The free agents will do what is best for them, like they always have. I have never seen a ticket with the words New York Torres printed on it. I also think there are going to be major improvements in pitching for quite a few years with the babies who have zero leverage, thus freeing up more money. Only one more year of Giambi & Damon.
My choice would be Girardi. He has proven an ability to get production out of young pitchers and that is where the Yankee future is going to lie. That and the fact that they will be cheap.

I would think Girardi would be the best bet too, if I was a Yankees fan.
I was crushed to hear that Larussa decided to stay in STL. That would have been amusing, had he decided to throw his hat into the 3-ring circus in NY.
My profound dissapointment at the fact that you guys didn't even consider Dusty Baker was somewhat tempered by the fact that he will be managing in the NL-Central this year, so I'll get to watch him lead his team down the path to (further) mediocrity for the next few years.

I was wondering where you were going with that Tripper. Having Baker on a team that we play a lot is great
