How many people can this world sustain? Are we near the end? The following graph is very thought provoking and I wonder how much higher the graph can go!

So, if my calculations are correct, Texas is 6,000,000,000,000 sq. ft big?
EDIT: Yep, it's much bigger in fact.

How many people can this world sustain?
Comfortably, about ten billion people. With fusion energy in a hydrogen economy, I'd say about a hundred billion people. If we really had to cram it we could accommodate a trillion people, but we'd then have something that's more of a Borg cube than a planet.
With a trillion people on plan et earth, most of the landmass would be citylike, with dozens of levels below the ground and lots of skyscraper cities. You'd have cities floating on the ocean, submerged cities in the ocean and cities on the bottom of the ocean. You'd have sky cities floating on ginormous balloons of hydrogen high into the stratosphere. You'd have cities orbiting the planet.
But we're not supposed to do that, we're supposed to move into space and spread out among the stars. A good number of people on a planet like this is one billion people. Population control can help: if we allow two kids per family, enough families will opt for one or none and population will decrease. We can handle this, or mother nature will do it for us the hard way.

How big a cage would you put a human in? I'd say the bare minimum a person needs would be a hectare (100x100mtr), most of it being public space.

I did the math (roughly) and suprisingly he is correct.
Texas is ~270,000 square miles or 7,527,168,000,000 square feet.
Giving 6billion people 1000sqft. each comes out to 215,220.39 square miles.

You can't give everybody only 1000 sq ft because people will have to move about. If you subtract roads & community buildings from those 1000 sq ft, we might as well live in a jail cell.
If you have a spacecraft of a square kilometer you could put 10-25 people in there without them going hopping mad in a few years.
And even then, there would have to be free happy drugs for all to cope with the confinement.

life isnt all about how much space you have, we need resources to live, the more people the more space we need for producing food, and oxygen, and resources to build
World Population from US Sensus Bureau 07/01/07 6,602,274,812 08/01/07 6,608,818,475 09/01/07 6,615,362,139 10/01/07 6,621,694,717 11/01/07 6,628,238,381 12/01/07 6,634,570,959 01/01/08 6,641,114,623 02/01/08 6,647,658,287 03/01/08 6,653,779,780 04/01/08 6,660,323,443 05/01/08 6,666,656,022 06/01/08 6,673,199,685 07/01/08 6,679,532,264
according to that graph, the population doubles roughly every 30 years, by 2030 we'll be at 17 Bill, 2060 34 billion, 2090 64 billion, 2120 128 billion.
going up pretty fast, and we dont seem to be getting much smarter... wasting huge amounts of our resources protecting ourselves from ourselves.

As far as im concerned, we have no where near reached our population limit on this planet.... nor do i believe that for any particular reason we will all be wiped out in 2012 or 2021, be it by asteroid or nuclear holocaust. The human race is no where near the peak of our evolutionary track... think about it.

And as for Nuclear Holocaust... i absolutly think its possible, infact i think the chance of one acctually occuring are rather signifigant. But i will argue the fact that it will be the final end and demise of the human race. As a point to ponder tho... If it did manage to wipe out the ENTIRE human race, yes all 6 billion of us... then it would alose bring about the demise of planet earth. And then....well just think about it.

the problem lies with the fact that with every house built= more people and at the same time less land for crops.
ontop of this, the more "advanced" we get it seems the more we pollute...funny how that works. I'm not just talking about cars either.
What some fail to realize is that our world is also being polluted from the inside(sewage and every dam chemical you can name).
This is a huge problem overlooked because...by time we notice it...it will be WAY to late...and i think its already showing in the tree's...they are all dieing.

yes thats another good point, the more the world is destroyed, the less things are kept in check. Any number of things could cause some mold competitor to go extinct and have black mold growing unchecked as an example. Same thing with viruses and what not....not to mention their are scientists out their CREATING viruses...wtf idiots i swear.
