The fact that it's coarser that coir, and describes itself as fiber makes me wonder. Coconut fiber is extremely poor for growing, coir works well; they're too different things.

Probably is coir, and probably works.

My foaf has used fiber, it works, technically, and the ryzos seem to like the strands to grow along.

Most say it's not as good as coir, I assume they are right, but it does work if that's all you can get.

Trouble is, certain supplies are not available in all markets, and it is always wise to avoid ordering online when you can.

So some peeps use whatever is at hand readily and cheap.

Almost anything will work, hell shredded newspaper works!

well im casing about 10 trays so I'll do half 50/50 and half straight verm and see what the yields are like.

You should be using that as a substrate. Not a casing material.

Mix the rye 1:4 with the coir. Then cover with 50/50 verm and peat after full colonization. You'll do far better. Rye makes a fairly poor substrate on its own, and inoculating enough jars for a 6-inch pure-grain substrate will yield poor results.

You do not want to sterilize, but pasteurize a bulk substrate. I recommend reading the bulk sub teks on the site. Knock up the rye as you would, then mix with pasteurized coir and some coffee grounds.
