Cow Poo and Straw Questions

My friend is using cow poo and straw mixture for bulk grow and he had the poo and straw in a bucket for a couple of days before bagging it up and it got rain in it. So he let it dry to just the right consistency before bagging it. But when he started shoveling it into the oven bags for pasterization there was a strong aroma that was comming from the poo. Is rain water ok to use? and with the bad aroma coming out of it will it be ok to still use if pasterized right?

No it wasnt an Amonia smell. Just a shit smell. When he got the poo it was good and dry. And it didnt smell until he started stirring it around and putting it into the bag!

i use Kow brand manure which is usually a little moist and warm (still composting) it never stinks though when i pastuerized it, sometime after the 2-3rd hour there was a sweet smell coming from the oven that reminded me of a bacterial contamination i dunno what was up with that

It sounds to me that this poo dried out before it completely composted and when it got wet it still stunk...
