    #752777 - 07/17/02 06:54 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

It is good, but your water content will be different. Add enough water until it is saturated then use like normal.

What does normal mean?

Make sure your vermiculite is holding as much water as possible without it dripping wet, then like normal either:
1) Use it for bottom casing layer or
2) Measure out what is needed for PF1/2 pint jar.
etc. etc.

Wrong! BRF/V is a precise measurement of flour, vermiculite and water.
If you pre-soak the vermiculite you throw the recipe out the window!
How many times have you done this?

Yup! That's the good (course) stuff! You're ready to rock, dude!
Don't listen to frog though... Mix your pf substrate according to the standard recipe.
Don't pre-moisten the verm!

Or you could use the instructions directly from the guy who invented the process who says "the course vermiculite holds less water than the fine"...

Granted, for each 1/2 pint jar use 1/2 cup verm + 1/4 cup BRF. The water content is dependent on how much the vermiculite can hold.

>>course vermiculite holds less water than the fine

Doesn't this contradict what you wrote earlier? Maybe I wasn't clear in my posts. Mix the verm and brf, period. The water is only that which the verm can hold. No extra water is added to the jars. Does this clear things up? I can see where pre-soaking and THEN adding more water is bad, this isn't what to do. Are we on the same level now?

lol, this is funny as hell, but there's a sure fire way of doing it.
do it by eye.
use enough verm. to fill all your jars. use as much water as can be absored by the verm. use enough flour so that all the little pieces of verm. are covered with BRF. the measurements arent exact every time. you may get some wicked ass verm and can hold alot more water. but the idea is, get the verm as to hold as much water, without using too much. and coat everything with flour. just remember that and you'll be able to alter teh recipe and add new things for the shroomie to munch on

"use as much water as can be absored by the verm"

No!!! If you let the verm absorb as much water as it can then your jars would be so waterloged that the mycelium would drown. Ill just go with the recipy, agrument over!

Bullshit. This works superbly!
You forget that BRF is being added to the soaked vermiculite, which makes the consistency just right.

"let the verm absorb as much water as it can"

That means how much water it can physically hold, thats WAY more that the amount of water in all the recipies. So you say if i dumped verm into a bowl and let it sit overnight i could use it in the morning?

What's great about growing is that there are
probably as many ways to do this as there
are people who do it. I say start with the
original instructions then experiment with it
till you find something that you really like
and works well for you. You will find you can
do it a number of ways and still get good results.
One time afoaf ran out of verm and used cooked
brown rice instead, and it worked great. So you
see nothing is written in stone when it comes to
growing......I hope that this helps. Good Luck!

Peace Love & Hair Grease,
Abyss

You could. But I don?t really see a point.

Read http://www.fungifun.org/pf/pf_en.htm to see what I mean.
