Hi! This is Mrs. PinheadX, posting for my hubby. He said that it was urgent that this info be posted for his friends here at the Shroomery.
We just found out that the 2007 Texas Mushroom Festival is this week, Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20 in Madisonville, Texas, and wanted to share the info. We'll see ya there.

More info in this article, along with the Mushroom Foray planned by the Texas Mycological Society.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/food/5210394.html
This is more along the lines of what I wanted to get across... there is a planned hunt every day this weekend, and anyone interested in fungus other than actives (and maybe we'll find some actives anyway...) should check into it.
I'll call the number and try to get more info to post here.

Another update:
The foray only happens every two years, so if you can't make this one, you have plenty of time to plan for the next one.
The Hunting Foray will be held in Huntsville, TX at the La Quinta hotel from 7pm Friday evening until about noon on Sunday. There will be discussions, hunts, etc. and Michael Kuo (of MushroomExpert.com) will be there to discuss fungi and answer questions. Experts will be on hand to help with identification.
The cost (yes, unfortunately it costs money to fly in people and reserve space to hold discussions, apparently) is $95, plus a $10 late registration fee, which wouldn't have been included ten days before the event, but I suck and lost the original flyer I had, so I couldn't post about this sooner. You will have to book a hotel room if you can't drive in, and the La Quinta is full...
There is a light dinner planned for Friday night and a tasting on Saturday afternoon.
I have the money, so I'll probably be going there this weekend, but I understand if some of you can't or won't.
By the way, membership in the Texas Mycological Society is only $15 a year. You can get info by calling the number in the article posted above.

Wish I could make it. D:
We should really do something like this with just Texas shroomerites, rent out some rooms on the beach and go hunting on the cow fields by day and chiefing on the beach by night.
