too much water? newbie needs assistance, please!!
    #752685 - 07/17/02 06:11 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

. . . where to begin? i'm just a matter of weeks into my first farming project. 10 half-pints, to be exact. i've already decided that i've made the substrate too heavy or at least packed it too much, because after the initial few days of mycelium growth, it halted in more than half of the jars. they do not appear contaminated, however.... only two or less. so, i've tossed the "lost cause" jars and the infected ones as well.... but my question remains about the only 4 that COULD be salvageable . . . now, they are all 3/4 colonized, but i fear that the substrate may be holding too much water, as they look Slightly wet, but do not show any signs of discoloration after a number of days. is it wise to try to prematurely birth the jars?? ..... or should i toss the entire project and be sure to make a really light substrate next time??

if the jars are uncontaminated and have mycelium growth.

you can use the cononized part to inoculate more jars.

it works .

. . . walt says to make more cakes with present supply . . . *thinks...

thanks for the tip ! would either of you also have a rough estimate as to how long i can let the cakes sit in their jars? is there a defineable time range after which they'll more-than-likely become infected ??

give it a while and it should fully colonize, wait another week atleast before you do anything drastic. patience is key, trust me. youll be pleased with the results
