ID Request (WA)

Hi ... (first post ever) ... I am Javi (mushroom ethusiast ... user for the last year or two ... trying to get into hunting/picking) ... Nice to meet ... you ...
Ok, So I found some mushrooms by my old high school the other day and I want to figure out what the are exactly ... I've used lots of online guides but none of the pics I've seen match the ones I have ... Maybe I haven't found and good images ... Idk ...
I'll do my best to describe them ... and I'll get pictures as soon as I can ...
Cap : When we found them, the caps were very blue ... and slimy ... hella slimy ... they're all pretty flat (I wouldn't go as far as to call them wavy caps ... but there's definately a swoosh to them) ... After closer examination and the discovery of some younger mushroom of the same species we realized that the blue color of the caps was actually (what seemed like) a coat of blue slime ... you can see the actual color of the cap is tanish/light brownish ...
Stem : Again, very blue ... after drying a bit I've found them to be white stems with blue all over them ... They're bare stems ... no rings ... hollow ...
Gills : What I would call "Brown" ... Straight/Wavy pattern ...
Spore Print : Somewhere between purple and brown ... or a dark smokey purple ... or a dark smokey brown ...
Habitat : I live in Kirkland, WA (close to Seattle, residential neighborhood with woods here and there) ... And I found them in some (relatively) freshly cut grass by my old high school right by the sidewalk, under some thorn bushes and a tree ... in the rain ... after a nice rain storm the previous day ... I had to move some grass to get them, except on the larger ones which where just bearly visible through the grass ... for the most part, I was digging them up ... (not like DIGGING but more like ... gently picking up clumps of grass to get to them but pulling the stems out of the ground) ...
Season : Yesterday (Autumn ... uh October ...)
So that's the best I can do off the top of my head without pictures ... I ask that you please do the same when trying to ID them ... If there's any more info that would give you a better idea ... don't hesitate to ask ...
I found alot .. and could find alot more if I had the green light ... I am very hopeful that they could be something of worth but I'd much rather be sure about it and get some second opinions than ... well ... eating bad mushrooms ...
Thanx
Much love

Since they have a dark purple brown spore print and bruise blue, you have an active Psilocybe.
But since you are new at this you should post some pictures so someone can verify.

Wrong Alan. He does NOT have an active Psilocybe. He has Stropharia aeruginosa. A non-active mushroom. They are distant cousins to Psilocybe mushrooms, but are non-active, and inedible.
The "slime" is a thick pellicle, nothing like what we think of in Psilocybe mushrooms.
You will get sick if you eat the mushrooms you found. DON'T eat them.

So I looked up the Stropharia aeruginosa and it doesn't quite look like what I have ... it is similar though ... probably too similar for my taste ...
Any other ideas? Or is this definately a "bad shroom"?

It wouldn't be the first time.

Could be. Kind of hard to tell without pictures.
> You will get sick if you eat the mushrooms you found. DON'T eat them.
I am not convinced that Stropharia aeruginosa is poisonous. I haven't ever heard of anyone complain about Stropharia poisoning.
Paul Stamets says "I know of people who have eaten this species with no ill effects. In Europe, it is thought to be edible. Caution is advised."
> So I looked up the Stropharia aeruginosa and it doesn't quite look like what I have ... it is similar though ... probably too similar for my taste ...
Your description matches both inactive Stropharia's and active Psilocybes, though the Psilocybes are just slimy, not hella slimy as in your sample. The real question is "Is the blue color due to bruising or just a blue mushroom?" Do the stems get blue when damaged, or are they already blue (especially the lower part) when growing?

Post some pictures please.

yea, i found some of those "green stratopharia's" the other day and at first i thought the mature ones were cyans, but they dont bruise blue at all. cool looking shrooms though. the mature ones look really similar to mature cyans.

I am also new and found these few days go thinking they were active. Its very good to do your research! I have pics under my topic if you would like to compare. I didn't get a spore print outta my samples though. Look for my post and compare with my pics if the thread is still up.
