Picking mushies but along comes the substrate

In this last batch of mushies I've been picking this week. They pull out a big chunk of the substrate with it. Its WBS spawned to coir, Cased with plain verm...
Am I not making a thick enough layer? Got 6, 5"x9"x4" containers, and 1 mono tub. The substrate is about 3.5" thick in the containers with about 1/3" casing layer. & the mono tub is only about 2" thick with a 1/4" casing layer.
I let the coir colonize 95-100%, then cased, waited till mycelium poked through, patched and put in the FC.

When picking your mushrooms twist at the base of the stem as you pull to avoid bringing out chunks of your casing/bulksub. Lightly patch your casing and give it the 3 day rest period to recover then fruit again.

I do do that, Just curious why its happening more this batch.... I've had other casings where they'd just about fall over when I'd touch'em.
Wondering if anyone has an explaination! Thanks.

i read here along time ago that u can use weed barrier cloth (steralized im sure) after your spawn run is done...put it between the sub and the casing and tuck down in the corners... you will then lose only a little of your casing but not the sub. patch and done i have no idea how this would affect flush times seeing as how the myc has to grow back in after each flush is done.
makes me wonder if it may delay the first flush by a few days. considering my friends friend never tried it but thought it was a great idea...he always used straw with no casing so it didnt matter to him
