Hyphal Knots or Contams?

Well another bucket is starting to get this same white powdery substance, and before I dump it I would like to know what it is. So if anyone could identify this I would appreciate it.
I think it might be the early form of trich before it turns green, so if anyone could confirm or deny that I would appreciate it.

It does look like you might have two types of growth in there. Did you give it the smell test? Thats a good way to make sure. Though you don't want mold spores in your lungs so be careful.
It looks ok to me, but it does look a bit off. Casings tend to fool my eyes though, so wait for a second opinion.
Edit: nevermind, im fairly sure that your casing is contammed upon looking at the picture again. That is does not look like mycelium or hyphal knots.

Damn thats what I thought. The one you are looking at is already buried and the other will join it in the morning. If anyone could tell me what it is and or how I can prevent it I would apreciate it.
What is a smell to watch out for?

Also, the things are changing in color, probably to green or blue, I can't see very well. If it's trich. I'm guess you're going to throw it out, but wait for some more opnions.

any smells that are bad essentially. It can't be described over the internet, but you will definately know what I'm talking about when you smell a contammed casing vs a healthy one.
That sucks that you messed up that far in though. You were so close. But now you can perfect what you did, and get some more fresh air exchange. Maybe get an air pump to get the air flowing 24/7, or set up a fan to turn on every so often with a timer. Or its as simple as fanning it more. But hey, whenever i tried to make a casing, a huge layer of cobweb and trich dominated it. It was unholy how gross it was. So you are not alone. Keep on trying, it looks like it have the hardest part of it down. Just work on the FAE.

looks like gren mold to me.
cleaner technique and much more fresh air is in order to have that not happen again.
those white spots will most likely turn green soon.

The bucket in question definitely smelled odd. Thanks for the pointers everyone. When ever I get a contaminations it seems to be right before fruiting.
Thanks guys, pazzy

If it's green, I'm assuming it's trich ... what's with the "more fresh air" advice? Is that something new to avoid trich? I've had some trich troubles with my last two bulk attempts as well ... through all the reading I've done (including here) to research ways to prevent/avoid it, I've never read anything about FAE - or more of it - having a positive effect against the appearance of trich

more fresh air is the single best way to prevent trich. Unless you grow invitro, you need fresh air exchange in order to not get contams.

Fresh air works so good against bad contaminations that I have some buckets with colonized poo (spawned with wheat) fruiting in open air up to the 5th flush and just using tap water in a spray bottle to mist it.

You're kidding right? We've known that good air exchange is the best way to prevent molds in substrates for decades. I'm sure I've posted that information myself at least a thousand times. RR

Including the last 3 threads I read. God, I hope the content management system they just put in is easy to expand. Forums should be a last resort.
