I went out for another stroll today since it rained a few days ago, and to no surprise found a bunch of liberty caps giggity! Over the past few years i've been picking my lawn, and i know all the hot spots. This year the lawn grew out taller then the previous few and i found some liberty cap with some surprisingly biggish stems compared to what i've ever found. The stems remind me more of cubensis stems then liberty caps stems. Anyone else find liberty caps with thick stems like this? Heres a few pics, i'm guessing its cause they are growing in longer grass and can get bigger, and need thicker stems to support themselves... just a though. probably found 50-100 in 15 minutes, not too shabby
the 2 on the left are the big stemmed ones
closeup of the 2, they have that jagged look cubensis stems have.... you know what i mean?
 a bunch
 another bunch peace

it is common to fun into P. semilanceata with various abnormalities. is there any difference to the structural or textural qality of the stipes?

The stipes are about the same in every way, except they are bigger, and they have that look i'm talking about similar to cubensis stems. you can even see how they kinda jagged in the shadows. yeah i know what you mean about the abnormalities, i'm still looking for some blue and orange liberty caps like some crazy guy on here got, those were pretty impressive. can't remember his name though....

well maybe mushrooms should start reading them! we do and we are higher on the food chain than they are... or do fungus help deteriorate our corpses... shit i dunno, but yeah, a couple years ago it was really wet, and i found quite a few liberty caps that were completely flat, and they had huge caps! and they weren't 'old flat' they were still fresh. at first i 100% about them being semilanceatas, but i took and spore print, and was able to separate the pellicle from the cap... and ohhh there was bluing. liberty caps do seem to have quite a bit of variance in them, as do a many others, look at all the cubensis strains!
