take a empty match box, put a piece of sand paper in it, then put the seeds in and close it and shake it around for like 10-15 seconds or how ever long you'd like.. it might help with germination. im only aware of it being done with mj seeds but hey who knows.

then soak them in water over night, or how long should i soak them for?
and does this look like a good idea to grow them in unti they sprout and i can transplant them?
and once i do transplant how close can they be growing together?

overnight is fine. knick them very carefully with finger nail clippers. hold the seed firmly in one hand and clip the shell to expose a small bit of the tissue. you have plenty of seeds to try with.

i ended up doing ths sandpaper on some and using a razor blade on some too. i have probably a little more than 50 soaking in water right now until the morning. then ill plant them in the eggcarton tomorrow.
does anyone know once i transplant them from sprouting, how close i can grow them together? how much room does each plant need?

of all the desmanthus i have sown (lots of illinoesnis maybe a hundred or so of leptobolus in various climates) boiling water worked best. bring some water to a boil, barely then pour it in a bowl with some seeds in it. all of my seeds (even the ones that were 5+ years old) sprouted within a week, always above 80%.
keeping them warm, humid and bright-ish also seemed to help a LOT.
