Gosh I love chlorella! And spirulina too!
I take 20g of spirulina a day, and 10g of chlorella I read it's good to take them in a 2:1 ratio.
but yeah, chlorella is amazing stuff.

I get mine from www.swansonsvitamins.com. They come in 360 pills.
They're a better deal than vitacost's just to let you know.
Vitacost:
600 x 200mg = 120 grams. Works out to about 10 cents per gram
Swanson's:
360 x 500mg = 180 grams. For $13.49, works out to about 7.5 cents per gram.

I agree - it is great stuff. It will almost completely prevent hangovers as well as its use as a general health aid.
I get mine from Now foods in the form of 1 lb. of the powder. I either mix it into something or put them into empty caps myself. The cost comes out to 6 cents per gram.
I don't trust the tablets as everyone I've bought has been rancid. I believe that occurs during the pressing process which probably uses heat. Chlorella contains essential oils which will quickly spoil if exposed to heat. I use only pure powder or caps which are loosely filled with the powder.
You should chip the tablets with a scraper and smell them for rancidity. If you get a fishy smell change brands or go the powder form or pre-capped.

Hmm, interesting.
I know when I open the bottle and smell inside, it smells very very bad. Does that mean it's rancid? It's not a fishy smell, but just what I'd imagine a whole heap of blue-green algae to smell like I guess.
Where do you get the powder from? I'm sure buying it directly from NOW would be a bit more expensive, so is there a wholesale site you get it from?

Ah yes! The stabilized rice bran! Very nice product!
I bought some for my mom, who has pretty high blood pressure, and since she started taking it, it has not been high.
Now if I could just convince her to get off all of her other meds and go all natural. She's getting there though! I'm starting to get her interested in chlorella.

It's hard to say from here if yours is rancid or not. My powder smells like algae of course but it has a fresh smell about it. After you've smelled both you will know the difference.
I have been getting mine from iherb.com. One pound of Now foods chlorella is on sale right now. They ship within 24 hours and usually give you a freebie with your order.
I always order the powder and use a capping gadjet I bought along with empty gel caps to make my own. It has paid for itself. Capping your own is a little tedious but saves money. For instance, if I had bought an equivelent amount of pre-capped chlorella I'd have paid about 50$ more.

An old bump but why not.
Anyone else have any experience with Chlorella? I just ordered Some from iherb for something like $9, and bad reviews seem hard to come by...

I have used it, I liked it. I have lots of chlorella and spirulina in my fridge, but haven't used them in a while, don't know why. I thought the other day I should start eating them again. I find I can't put the powders in my fruit smoothies it will destroy them. I need to find the right amount to put in so its not bad.
I used to just mix spoonfuls of juice and chug, but I have stopped buying juice. I don't like to waste the stuff I make on chugging. Maybe Ill be able to just mix with water and chug.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty. You could maybe just cap it I suppose one serving would probably be like 3 pills, though.
Not finding a good mix was my fear and the reason why I havn't purchased any yet.

I mix spirulina with water all the time and drink it down. It's not bad at all

I have always wondered why Chlorella or even Spirulina get such good reactions, considering everything that is in these algae are in multi vitamins and whatnot...does anyone know of the whys for these algaes nutrition? I'd really really like to get into it but I just don't see it making a difference.

I think a lot of it has to do with bio-availability.
You can have wonderful ingredients in a multivitamin but is it in a form which is readily absorbed by the body?
