Anyone got any id/ help- noob here --and help would be greatly appreciated!, details and pictures as follows
area found - northern virginia, blue ridge mountains, elevation 800 ft, temp around 70f, growing on fallen tree that straddles small stream. (note: has been extremely dry here, not a lot of rain so only moisture source has been creeks and streams.) not sure what species tree, but was red wooded decaying.
gills- tannish to brown, bruising only a little darker pic--
stem- tan to brownish, 1 cm wide on larger, bruises darker brown. pic-
dark in center is bruising. no rings, or bumps, no veil present.
cap- brown to tan, not sticky, sturdy, no veil, largest 1 1/2" - 2 " pic-
spore print- drying and making one now... but spores seem to be brownish as i would have expected from these particular mushrooms.
bruising- brownish i.e. stem photo, cap bruises darker
todays haul-
if anybody has any ideas, id love to hear then, tried to give best description i could, dont think therye Galerina, no ring on stem. dont even know if its active or not, just looking for some id advice. thanks in advance, and i will now yield the floor for all the "1st post" flames...

Possibly maybe Gymnopilus. Take spore prints and see what the color comes out to be. That'd help.

Could you get pictures? That sounds almost maybe like an orange gym spore but it's hard to say from different judgements.

Wait for a spore print and if you it's a rusty orange it could be some gymnopilus. How does the texture on the cap feel?

for lack of better metaphor, kinda like poundcake, not slick or slimy, will update later w/ better sporeprint, im not getting excited yet though, if they even are gyms, theyre prolly too dry and wasted to do too much, no bugs though. but would be useful to know, so that if we EVER get any rain, i know where to go to find some more. its SO dry, even the jet black soil under the moss in the woods today was bone dry..... so if we get some rain without any accompaning cold weather, should be good to go

spore print cinnamon, i cant tell if its a gym or variety of inocybe, like was saying its been way too dry here, and these were pretty dry when picked, so i dunno, im gonna get microscope with higher power, isolate single spores and see what i get.

It isn't Inocybe, the cap shape, habitat, and spore print color is wrong for Inocybe.
Could be Gymnopilus.
Here is a picture I took of Gymnopilus luteofolius spores: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Gymnopilus_luteofolius_spores.jpg
It would help to see a pin sliced in half. Also a better description of the cap surface - Does it contain tiny fibers?
Give it a taste without swallowing any and let us know what it tastes like.
