Dried out/Drying casings...

Too much FAE... and I shook my grain jars too much during colonizing, thus making total colonization time almost 4wks... drying out the berries some. Casing is .5" 50/50, put into sterilite tubs, about 6"x12". They have pulled away .5" from the tubs. They looked dry. Heavy misting, and lest FAE, plus an ultrasonic is now keeping proper RH/FAE. But they have pulled away... and only 1 shows sure signs of pinning after almost 2.5wks in the fruiting chamber. The rest have grown over (thinly) about 70% of the casing layer.
Should I dunk, and re-case? Just put another casing layer over? I have never had this happen, and I feel like a mush abuser. Thanks for the help!

Misting lightly several times a day is the best way to get casings back up to the correct moisture content. If you mist really heavily (including using the ultrasonic too much) you'll damage your potential pinset.
If the casing is really dry you could try pouring water down the sides of the tray and allowing the casing to float in the water overnight then carefully drain out the water... this seems to be gentle on a pinset.

Thanks for the info. I don't know if anyone has ever noticed, but the spray heads on *WINDEX* bottles spray really fine mist as compared to the spray bottles that you buy for having a spray bottle.
So you don't suggest putting another small casing layer over the top? I think jeetered said something about rehydrating like you mention, putting water in the bottom of the casing container (.5" maybe?) overnight and then draining.
