Dorm room growing?

Is it feasible to have a small grow op in a small college dorm room, my roomie is ok with it, but in a very unsterile environment (carpets), is it realistic to think i can avoid contamination?

there's nothing wrong with carpeted floors in regards to contaminations - unless - you have it in your mind to have your terrarium / greenhouse only inches off the floor.
Put your terrarium at waist height or so on a countertop and the carpets will play no role in your cleanliness.

sweet, what about the general messiness, I keep it clean, but after a weekend of parties it can be pretty bad.

the bottom line is going to be your ability to properly sterilize the jars and to have a sound inoculation procedure that is clean and sterile as well. Once you get past spawning (or birthing) the jars, the need for a sterile environment has past...now you're just looking for as much fresh air exchange as possible and being able to maintain the humidity requirements.
I'd definitely search for RR's "shotgun terrarium" tek. You'll end up with something that looks like this...

notice all the holes on all sides (even the bottom) and, more importantly how I have it up high, not down by the carpet. have fun.

dont worry too much, the cakes are most defensless against bacteria when they are colonizing in the jars but they are airtight... once the cakes are fully colonized and in the terrarium they are not so easily overtaken by bacteria. still, try using some disinfectant air spray after a huge party.

it is completely possible to grow in a dorm room assuming you have a stove or are planning on buying pre-sterilized jars
just make a smart choice i know dorm rooms can be hard to keep private so just consider the fact that someone might blab to the wrong person (not even meaning you harm) and you might be discovered and removed from your college

Yeah, exactly. Don't tell anybody. Your roommate knows, that's already too many people who know. When I lived in a dorm years ago I knew so many people who got kicked out because they had weed in their rooms. Not selling or growing just a bag for personal use. If you get busted growing shrooms in a dorm room your likely to be kicked out of school and charged with manufacture of a controlled substance. As far as cleanliness. Keep the room as clean as possible vacuum regularly, take out the garbage frequently, and dust everything (walls, furniture, ceiling, etc). Also never underestimate the use of a shitload of Lysol; every couple of days spray so much you need to leave the room for a while.

Thanks for all the advice, my college is chock full of substances so Im not terribly worried about getting caught as long as my roommate doesn't feel the need to brag about growing shrooms.
I'm not sure if this is just a myth or a legitimate concern, but when ordering spores, do they say stuff like "Mikes Mushroom spore emporium for making magic" on the box, cause I'm pretty sure the RA's sort the mail, and that could be a problem.

if you tell absolutely nobody and hide it in a place where you will know if somebody finds it soon after, then you have nothing to fear, but somebody robbing your room and finding the mother load.

unless your roommate is really really tight I would let it cool off an dont say anything for a bit. then do everything when no ones looking and don't tell anyone. you don't want to get busted for trying to grow 10 grams of shitty weak BRF mushies.

dude my house is dirty as hell, I'm a sophomore and have parties and spill beer everywhere every other day. I colonize my jars in the dirty ass living room, put them in a trunk with a lizard heating mat and a thermometer that sits on my floor in my closet and they are a-ok.

It is odd that someone else would think of such an idea. I currently am into my second week of a grow. I completely support you. But here are some guidelines i think you should follow. 1. Only tell your roommate, that is it. you may need him/her to check on them the day they sprout. You dont want any broken veils. 2. Grow under your bed. A hig up place may have too high of temp when fruiting time comes. Best bet is under your bed out of view. Get a bed skirt or something. If its too cold on the floor for colinization use a reptile heating pad. 3. Parties are out of the question. PERIOD. whether your container is sitting under your bed or up high, drunk people tend to let curiosity get the better of them. 4. Absolutely no smoke. This is just good growing practice. Keep the air clean as possible. 5. A good site is ralphstersspores.com it is a sponsor of shroomery and syringes come in a cardboard box with RS as the return name (Ralph Sters) get it. 6. As someone mentioned, you will be extremely paranooid. make sure that you are mentally sound enough to handle the pressure of approaching exams and the added paranoia.
I do wish you the best of luck. Just make sure you have all the angles figured out before you decide to start.

as long as you keep it small and simple, you should be fine. Don't try to set a martha up inside your linen closet or something, just do a few cakes, enough for personal use or whatever.

I second the vote for mycobags; I doubt that maximum yield is really your goal as much as reliability and ease.
However, I'd urge you to reconsider. If you're in the Pacific NW, you can buy a sack of mushrooms for under 30 bucks. Your college education is costing you, or your parents, thousands. Yes, you may not have a lot of money and the idea of growing your own is pretty neat.
I got kicked out of college; not really officially, but the official headache of getting nabbed on (small-scale, as in a few people) distribution of hallucinogens meant I couldn't focus on my studies, or do much more than fight for my right to stay.
I also went to a school drenched in drugs of all kinds--largely issues were overlooked. Just saying...I didn't ever see it coming. NOT worth it. Wait until your 4th amendment status is clear before risking something like that. I just got my application in to finish my economics degree at 24 years old. Transferring has effectively destroyed a year's worth of credits, meaning some $20k down the tubes, to say nothing of my legal fees. Suck.

Ya, I am starting to think its not worth the hastle, and I might as well focus on hunting in some pastures since I am in the PNW, I think I will wait till its not totally a potential disaster waiting to happen.

Actually if you're in the PNW, I would go looking for liberty caps, and other psilocybes. Pastures usually foster cubensis, which are a bit too tropical for where you are. Cruise the Hunting forum, anyhow. My girlfriend bought me an ID book recently, and we're going hunting this weekend.
Hassle is very worth it. But colleges, insular and with a *lot* of risk-taking and often no repercussions, can breed a sense of impunity that's undeserved. Read up, get that degree, then get your own place and grow away

Im growing in my dorm room just fine..... i have one big rubbermaid container...70 gallons would be a guess and i keep all my supplies in that, and i have two 30 gallon, or so, rubbermaids on top, one is my incubator the other is my fruiting chamber.... i cover with a big blanket and i keep my books on it as if it were a table (its at the and of my fouton) the blanket hides my thermometer and timer with the cords to the light running to it...... i keep a misty mate and a fan under there too for when i need to fan and mist, harvested my first flush off one cake last week and now that cake is on flush two and i have 2 casings in there..... i have some hpoo straw spawn incubating right now, cant wait to see the difference from just casing!!
( i would post pics of my set up but i know some kids here look at this site from time to time and i cant be caught)

Growing in your dorm rooms is one of the worst ideas ever, Period! You live in a place where you have next to no rights to privacy. Although the police may not have the right to barge down your door at any moment, your RA's and campus security officers do and they will call the cops. You'll be arrest for manufacture with intent, kicked out of school, and put into to debt to your ears if not jail.
You also live in a community of many people in a small place whom all know and talk to one another. Word will spread eventually unless you are VERY careful. The odds are against you.
You are putting yourself at great risk for little payout. Mushrooms are cheap in most places and if your in the PNW, easily found. consult the hunting forms.
I know the idea of growing sounds exciting, but being patient, something critical to this hobby, and waiting till a safer time would be best.
Just a though, sorry for the rant. Whatever you decide, be careful, use your best judgment, and above all keep quiet about it!.

the only reason i grow is because of the lack of avalibility around these parts. My friend had a "shroom" hook up, and they were supposidly "way bigger" than mine. He came back with them crushed up, but im sure they were amantias. Shit, it was a waste of time. any way thats the best i can do without my own means. I Wish some one would write me a tek on how to find people that sell shrooms

You can do it but the roommate thing is the trick. I knew a guy that was growing a Baylor in the late '80s who's roommate was "COOL" with it until he got mad. Sr. year at Baylor the dude got kicked out. Be careful with it.
