small fruits are indicitive of dehydration some times, yes.
yes, a dunking would be in order, before each flush. if it's a huge substrate, maybe a floating would be easier than a dunking. followed by a good misting.

humidity is too low, crop your casing and dunk, you are overly ready for your next flush.'

wutang i fill the bottom of my tubs with 1 inch of water, they absorb it after 3 or 4 days.
it's a simplistic way to "dunk" I also mist the top well.
good luck and keep us posted!

Be careful during this process, a "tray-cake" that rips in half takes a flush or so to recover. I've only ever floated mine in a clean, luke-warm tap-water solution for about 10-20 minutes at a time.
Two things to keep in mind, although they may not apply...
1. coco-coir only flushes two or three times typically before it's fully spent. You didn't mention your substrate.
2. While I'm not going to say that proper hydration through the fruiting stage would have prevented this - it will happen anyways - it is still somewhat indicative that they were a little dehydrated when they flushed and sucked hard from their reserves instead.

Don't mistake my tone for a "matter-of-fact" attitude. hey guys quick question i sent off for my first batch of spores to day first off thanks for having me in the community and thanks for the inspiration my question is it seems that if the mycelium survive inoculation and make their birthday the chances of survival increase greatly is this true

Not necessarily, however once you have a jar's worth of a healthy mycelium colony if something's going to kill it, it'll fight like mad to get at least one flush off...because remember, the fruiting stage for mycelium is triggered by it's environmentals indicating it's about to die.
Food source depleted (biggest trigger, in my humble opinion), more oxygenated air, slightly cooler temps, etc. things that could indicate that it should reproduce before dieing.

i never thought of that.. a few days they would get really hydrated
well heres one of the casings after a dunk, the other case is showing little improvement, i guess i'll have to dunk next time longer than 12 hours....
anyway heres a pic taken today, im gonna isolate/clone this fatass so all my mushrooms will look like this! hes almost the size of my lighter not to mention his unbroken veil too!
