One particular genus that comes to mind is Streptomyces. . .it VERY typically smells like a basement, in fact that's where basements get their basement smell usually. They have properties of both fungus and bacteria, even pure cultures on agar can be sniffed, so IF it is Streptomyces, not much to worry about. I haven't come across anything else that has that basement smell. The caveat is that if you have Streptomyces contamination, there could likely be something else going in there as well.
