I'm stuck on project ideas.

I'm taking a course on the art & science of light. My responsibility this weekend is to come up with a project idea. Basically, I can explore anything within the theme of "light". I was deadset on holography and creating some holograms, but now I'm realizing just how unfeasible this goal will be for me. It will just take too much time, and it won't easily fit into my academic budget. ($100-$300 for equipment). Anyway, I'm completely stuck. I've been surfing the internet all day looking into different project ideas and my brain has gone limp.
Anybody got any suggestions? At this point I'm almost ready to turn in a proposal that says I'm just gonna mess around with my digital camera and see what I can find out about light properties.

I recommend a quantum dot setup using self-assembled epitaxial growth. Make sure to have the threshold density pretty low, Id recommend maybe even having a Bragg reflection grating to minimize the modes you don't want to be amplified. Throw in some small signal's so you can find out the relaxation frequency to then modulate a signal, and then have a party

i suggest creating a black hole, and studying how light reacts to it.

If you're allowed to use light for the art part of your course, there's millions of things you could do. Buy a bunch of laser lights with the budget and distribute them to the class for some sort of performance art or installation or something. Or, compare Impressionist art with photographs of the time or something. Or try developing photographs with different types of lightbulbs. Or, try and develop a lightbulb that doesn't give off as much heat. Or something with prisms.

Yea so I'm going to do a book report on why lasers are cool. And take a photograph of it. And then turn the photo into a light bulb. But then it won't matter because the black hole will swallow it all up anyway. Sweet! What a productive evening.

Come up with your own ideas then.
A fun and easy project involves a single laser, some motors, bits of mirror and variable resistors. See where I'm going with that one? Cliche maybe but whatever.

make art using reflections
you can make 'holograms' by having an old computer monitor showing an image on a piece of clear glass set at a 45 degree angle with one end of the glass at the base of the monitor. ...well, if its dark enough, and if you can hide the monitor.
check out lenses, etc.
