uo is the best game i have ever played hands down. But, its time has passed, and its ruined these days i think, the free servers will never be the same because of razor, and theres no good servers these days.

We should start a shroomery server for this game and customize the shit out of it. Anyone interested?

If you play a 3 party server (havent done it in a while but it used to be UOX and TUS) then you can play for free. Just DL the game and update to the correct client and you are set for freeshards. Anyone can create one and use it. I used to host one with a buddy of mine a few years back (like 7 years) and it lasted about 2 before we decided to call it quits.

I'd have to dig up my installation disc, but I'd be down for a shroomery based server version of UO.

I played for a couple years in 2000 and then started again earlier this year on a free player run hybrid server but quit playing again. The server was fun and the gameplay was better than the pay version, I simply got busy and forgot about that game. I still have my account and stuff just haven't logged in for about 3 months. The player run free uo server is bad ass, old school game play and nearly 3k people.

Yeah, this game seriously dominated my early teenage years. The last free server I played was Archeronne back in 03-04 or something. If the shroomery would to start one and throw around a few links to the actual game download it would be badass, but I don't know if that many people would be interested in playing.

Ill do some research on the free server software and see if I still have the knowledge to set it up and everything. In the mean time lets try the server posted above.

I'm about to have a 7x gm tamer on hybrid
if anyone wants to get started and play with me my aim is strangler blues.
You can download the 15 day free trial off of file planet and use it to play on hybrid, that's how I got it. I never bought ultima so I don't have disk or anything.

You can DL the client using the link below: http://www.fileplanet.com/156570/download/Ultima-Online:-Mondain's-Legacy-Client
Stop run the update and stop it after it applies patch 5.0.9 otherwise you will patch too much or not enough.
Then go to the server link listen above and get all the relavent information.

If anyone does start a server, change all the reagent spawns to drop mushrooms: amanitas, cyans, cubies. And when you eat them, you get special powers. And turn some of the mobs into Johnny Law and others into grotesque hallucinations which can overcome your shroomy powers. And fields of weed, as far as the eye can see, stretching off to mountains riddled with caves full of crystals and more mushrooms.

I would definitely play a server like that, as long as it doesn't get too complicated...

would there be costs involved in setting up a uo server, someone's got to host it right?

I would think so. I think our best bet would all get together on the hybrid server www.uogamers.com offers. When I played there it was very PvP orientated and there were massive amounts of people online at any given time because people from all over the world play on this one server instead of being restricted to a shard with the lowest ping in their part of the world. The Britain bank always had about 100 people around it. Good stuff

Yeah, running a server costs bucks. I've heard of people running WoW servers spending $5k on just the server, let alone the bandwidth. Better if the shroomery takes over an existing server and everyone just makes themselves at home.
One thing I liked about UO, you could work on negative rep, working your way through Reviled and Despised and Outlaw and all that. And then there was that crazy fucker with the red sash who'd hang out in one of the lich-heavy dungeons and gank anyone who wasn't wearing a red sash. He had an awesome comic going, I wish I could remember the addy.

If you all do get a server running you should make it Fel rules all around. The best part of UO is the PvP.

When I ran a server with my friend a few years back we didnt pay a dime to host it. We had, at our peak, 200+ players on at a time. Never had any lag unless we were doing live updates.

The best server i ever played had a custom map, fel rules, pre AoS, but it still had the beatles and swampies. Now, that would be fucking awesome to have. Buuuuuut, someone would have to take charge of this project... Now i have no experience with creating servers and such... so that rules me out!
