I haven't tried this game, but have been looking for a free MMO to kill some time in. Shroomery server would be
btw, the client download on the uogamers.com site doesn't seem to work.

would there be costs involved in setting up a uo server, someone's got to host it right?

I would think so. I think our best bet would all get together on the hybrid server www.uogamers.com offers. When I played there it was very PvP orientated and there were massive amounts of people online at any given time because people from all over the world play on this one server instead of being restricted to a shard with the lowest ping in their part of the world. The Britain bank always had about 100 people around it. Good stuff

Yeah, running a server costs bucks. I've heard of people running WoW servers spending $5k on just the server, let alone the bandwidth. Better if the shroomery takes over an existing server and everyone just makes themselves at home.
One thing I liked about UO, you could work on negative rep, working your way through Reviled and Despised and Outlaw and all that. And then there was that crazy fucker with the red sash who'd hang out in one of the lich-heavy dungeons and gank anyone who wasn't wearing a red sash. He had an awesome comic going, I wish I could remember the addy.

If you all do get a server running you should make it Fel rules all around. The best part of UO is the PvP.

When I ran a server with my friend a few years back we didnt pay a dime to host it. We had, at our peak, 200+ players on at a time. Never had any lag unless we were doing live updates.

The best server i ever played had a custom map, fel rules, pre AoS, but it still had the beatles and swampies. Now, that would be fucking awesome to have. Buuuuuut, someone would have to take charge of this project... Now i have no experience with creating servers and such... so that rules me out!
